Holiday apartment in Tidaholm: Culture, River Landscapes and Activities
In Tidaholm, industrial history, river landscapes and trails on Hellidsberget come together. The Tidaholm Museum is housed in the former factory premises of Vulcan’s industry on Vulcanön and tells the story of how Tidaholm developed as an industrial town. Its permanent exhibition explains how the Vulcan match factory and industrialisation shaped Tidaholm.
Culture and History
The industrial past is present in several places. Vulcans gamla smedja has been preserved as a living industrial monument; food, tools and work surfaces illustrate the working environment around 1900. Blacksmithing courses are also held in the forge. In the museum’s C-Magazine, the exhibition “Tidaholms bruks bilar” displays nine preserved vehicles.
Tidaholms konsthall is also connected to the town’s industrial history: it is housed in a former turbine house built on the Tidan River in 1898. Changing art exhibitions are shown there in spring, summer and autumn. Another connection between the townscape and history is the Stadsvandring in Tidaholm. The historic walking tour leads through the town’s stories, buildings and places and to stations of cultural and historical interest, including Turbinhusön.
Turbinhusön is also home to the Museistugan. Several traditionally furnished blacksmith’s cottages convey what life was like in the 18th and 19th centuries; the cottages can be visited in summer. During this season, Handelsboden on Turbinhusön offers locally produced goods and local handicrafts.
River Landscapes and Trails
The Tidan River runs through Tidaholm, and most of the town’s central parks are located along the river. The riverside landscape includes Turbinhusön, a preserved cultural landscape on the banks of the Tidan in central Tidaholm, with a long riverside promenade. The promenade runs between Östra Drottningvägen and the Tidan River. Tall trees, lawns and plantings define its appearance.
Bruksvilleparken is also located on the Tidan River. There, you can go for a walk, take a coffee break and use the barbecue area with tables and seating. In summer, there is entertainment on the open-air stage. Anyone wishing to fish in the river in central Tidaholm needs a fishing licence.
Activities Throughout the Year
On Hellidsberget, the Aktivitetsrundan combines exercise with brief information provided on site: the 2.5-kilometre fitness trail is equipped with twelve information boards and exercises for children and adults. Also on Hellidsberget, an easy 10-kilometre mountain bike loop begins at the trail centre by SISU-stugan. In winter, the trails on Hellidsberget are prepared for cross-country skiing.
The Norra Rundan leads through forest landscapes, open fields and grazing areas. It offers a species-rich animal life, including grazing cows and rare bird species. Thus, different types of landscapes exist side by side on the trails around Tidaholm, without their respective characteristics having to be merged.
