Discover Håcksvik
Accommodation in Håcksvik
Håcksvik lies in the northern part of the Fegen nature area; at the same time, the strongly meandering Stångån shapes the locality. Its cultural history is reflected in the unique South Swedish bonad paintings at Klockaregården, the church and the former furniture-making workshop at Kvarnagården. If you prefer spending time outdoors, you can include hiking trails, canoe routes and a bathing spot in your holiday plans.
Cultural history at Klockaregården and the church
Klockaregården is home to unique South Swedish bonad paintings. In a room now located there, Sven Erlandsson painted the walls in 1848 with 33 panels depicting biblical themes. The paintings are permanently fixed to the walls. The precisely identified panels and their lasting connection to the room make Klockaregården a special point of interest for travellers interested in regional cultural history.
Håcksvik Church also brings together several historical layers. It was rebuilt in wood in 1826 in the Neoclassical style, after the condition of its medieval predecessor had deteriorated. The church houses one of two surviving copies of a commemorative document sent to Swedish parishes on the occasion of the centenary of the 1693 Uppsala Resolution. The tower may originally have served as a defensive tower, when the former border with Denmark at times ran along the Stångån.
Traces of craftsmanship at Kvarnagården
Another aspect of local history takes centre stage at Kvarnagården: from the late 19th to the early 20th century, the Mårtensson brothers ran a furniture-making workshop there. On certain occasions in summer, the local heritage association starts up the machines and demonstrates what the operation was like in the past. As demonstrations do not take place every summer day, it is a good idea to ask about current dates before your visit.
Hiking trails, canoe routes and time by the water
The 49-kilometre Pilgrimsleden Kindaholm connects the churches of Kalv, Håcksvik, Östra Frölunda and Mårdaklev. Two stages have specified distances: Kalv–Håcksvik is 17 kilometres, and Håcksvik–Östra Frölunda is 14 kilometres. This difference offers a practical guide if you are considering a section of the route rather than the entire trail for your trip. Along the Pilgrimsleden, you can enjoy a historic walk through beech forest, agricultural landscapes and spruce forest, as well as along Lake Fegen.
The Kindaholmsturen also passes through Håcksvik along a route of about nine kilometres. A campsite system is available for canoe routes south from Håcksvik and Östra Frölunda; the routes are checked regularly. Before setting out, find out about local rules to ensure your plans suit the conditions on the ground.
For a break by the water, visit the Skäremosjön bathing spot in Håcksvik. It has a barbecue and a lifebuoy, as well as a sandy beach and a small grassy area. As facilities may change, it is a good idea to check the current conditions before your visit.
