Discover Spekeröd: Golf, Nature and History
Accommodation in Spekeröd
Spekeröd combines unusual nature experiences, golf and a multifaceted history. Those looking for a holiday apartment can discover the area according to their own interests: playing sport on the golf course, enjoying the outdoors in the Svartedalen nature reserve or exploring cultural history around the church, village day and archaeological sites.
Golf between heathland and the Anråsån
Stenungsunds Golfklubb is located at Lundby 205, 444 93 Spekeröd. Its golf course is an open heathland course that winds around the Anråsån. This gives the game a clear connection to the landscape without making the sporting arrangements complicated: No golf club membership or previous golfing experience is required for the short-hole course. In addition, no tee-time reservation is required for this course.
The club also offers a Grönt-kort course for obtaining the Swedish golf proficiency certificate. Those choosing golf as the main focus of their stay can compare the location of their accommodation with their planned club visit and the other days of their holiday when searching for a place to stay.
Nature in the surrounding area
In the vicinity of the destination, the Svartedalen nature reserve can be reached from Spekeröd on the Stenungsund side. The Bohusleden trail runs through the reserve. For your travel planning, this opens up another side of Spekeröd: After a day of sport, you can plan a visit to the natural area as a separate excursion and arrange your desired activities at your own pace.
Church, village day and local traditions
Spekeröd Church has medieval origins, probably dating back to the 12th or 13th century. It was dedicated to Saint Bartholomew and is mentioned in 1388 as “Spikkariodærs kirkia”. Its historical context makes the church an interesting point of reference for anyone who wants to discover not only the landscape but also local history during a trip.
A living tradition is Spekerödsdagen, a recurring village day for the whole family. It takes place at Hembygdsgården Kleva and in Spekeröds Bygdegård. Workshops in crafts and art are offered during Spekerödsdagen.
Archaeological traces in Spekeröd
Spekeröd 8 is an archaeological complex from the Iron Age consisting of a burial ground and a settlement. The Spekeröd 8 burial ground comprised around 20 graves and is dated to the Late Roman Iron Age through the Migration Period, approximately 350–500 AD.
There are also traces in the area near Kännestorp of continuity spanning around 1,500 years, from the Late Bronze Age to the Viking Age. The area forms part of a larger prehistoric settlement centre with several settlements and burial grounds. Those interested in archaeology and historic landscapes can take these themes into account when selecting their own day-trip destinations.
