Björstorp is located on the shore of Lake Viken and combines a water-rich landscape with forest, swimming spots and a shore path leading towards Markaviken. The area consists predominantly of natural spaces, where birch and pine trees shape the landscape. Anyone looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home for a stay by the water will find a place here whose character is strongly defined by the lake and the surrounding natural areas.

Lake Viken, Forest and Paths by the Water

The part of Lake Viken belonging to the Björstorp area has a predominantly rocky bottom. Two swimming spots belong to Björstorp, and there are also two small boat harbours on the lake. A shore path leads from Björstorp towards Markaviken and provides a practical opportunity to include the surroundings in your travel plans on foot. The forest is maintained so that it does not become overgrown. This brings together open natural areas, managed forest and the shoreline landscape of Lake Viken.

The classification of the landscape is also noteworthy: Björstorp is located in an area designated under Chapters 3 and 4 of the Swedish Environmental Code as being of national interest for nature conservation, tourism and mobile outdoor recreation. Lake Viken and its shoreline areas are the determining features. For your holiday planning, this primarily means a clear thematic focus: nature, water and activity are central here, while the area's historical development offers an additional perspective.

A Day of Swimming, Fishing and the Regional Water Landscape

Fishing with a hand line and trolling from a boat are permitted on Lake Viken. This allows a stay by the lake to be arranged in different ways: you can plan visits to swimming spots and the shore path, or get to know Lake Viken from a fishing perspective. In nearby Undenäs lies the municipal Viken–Skarven bathing area. It is shallow, child-friendly and equipped with a bathing jetty. This is a practical option for families who would like to consider another swimming location in addition to the swimming spots in Björstorp.

Lake Viken receives water from Lake Örlen to the south and Lake Unden to the north. It then drains via the Forsviksån into Lake Vättern and is its largest tributary. Its water level is approximately 91.5 metres above sea level and is regulated by the diversion through the Göta Canal and the Forsvik lock into Bottensjön and Lake Vättern. These connections also make the regional water landscape interesting for visitors who would like to discover the geographical links between the lakes in addition to swimming and nature experiences.

Getting There and Choosing Accommodation

The access road to Björstorp is approximately 4.5 metres wide and surfaced with gravel. The area has three gated entrances: two are in Björstorp and one is in Markaviken. There is little traffic in the Björstorp area, and the roads encourage low speeds. Take this information into account when choosing your accommodation and planning your journey, especially if you deliberately wish to factor the condition of a rural access road into your decision.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Björstorp, you can first consider what daily rhythm suits your trip. Those focusing on swimming spots, the shore path and fishing can orient themselves towards Lake Viken. Those who want to combine days in nature with regional history will find further points of interest in the village and its past. The location thus provides a clear framework for a stay without requiring accommodation to have specific amenities.

History of Björstorp

Björstorp was first recorded in 1498 in the land register of Jöns Ulfsson Roos. The village was later incorporated into the Sannum estate complex and remained associated with its owners. In the 1640s and 1650s, Claes Fleming was one of the owners of Björstorp. The settlement history also extends further back: the Finnish settlers Carl Hindrichsson and Karin Mickelsdotter moved from Skallebo to Björstorp in 1660 with their son and daughter-in-law.

These historical details add another layer to a stay. They do not describe a single attraction, but rather the development of the village, its owners and the people who settled here. This makes it possible to combine a day on Lake Viken with an exploration of Björstorp's history.
