Norrfors combines the landscape of the Lögdeälven with distinctive hiking experiences and a special site of cultural and historical interest. Those looking for an apartment or holiday home for their vacation can choose between walking trails, longer routes and insights into the history of Norrfors Church. The different route lengths make it easier to plan varied days without having to commit to just one type of outing.

Water, church and historical traces

Norrfors is situated on the Lögdeälven. Norrfors Church is built of wood in a combination of 1920s Classicism and Baroque. It was constructed in 1922–1923 according to plans by architect Knut Nordenskjöld. About 100 meters away, the water of the Lögdeälven rushes by. This allows you to combine architectural details and the river as two different impressions during a stay in the area.

The churchyard is also part of the character of this place. It has a well-preserved period character and typical period planting. If you are interested in architectural history, cemetery culture and regional design, Norrfors Church thus offers a tranquil counterpoint to the more active trails along the river. The railway adds to the historical picture: On the trail near Norrfors, hikers pass beneath railway bridges from 1890 and 1969.

Hiking routes of different lengths

The Norrfors–Lillnäset section of the Lögdeälvsleden is 9.5 km long. From the starting point in Norrfors, the trail begins on a gravel road and then continues across higher terrain onto a narrower path. Take this sequence into account when planning your day, especially if you want to experience different sections of the route deliberately.

For shorter outings, Norrfors offers other options as well. In summer, there is a 5 km route. The Norrfors elljusspår also includes a 2.5 km illuminated route that is free of charge. A longer option is the 15 km route between Norrfors and Brattsbacka, which can be used in daylight. When choosing your accommodation and planning your days, you can therefore distinguish between a compact loop, a summer trail and a longer route.

Practical orientation on the Lögdeälvsleden

There is an overnight shelter in Norrfors. It can be reached via a 200-meter detour at the suspension bridge near Nedre Älgforsen. Norrfors also has a wind shelter with a barbecue area. For the Lögdeälvsleden, you can park below the bridge by the wind shelter or near the Svartforsen rest area on the gravel road farther upstream. Svartforsen has a barbecue shelter and a parking space for motorhomes.

Local atmosphere and other places

At Norrforsgården, pizza and barbecue evenings occasionally take place a few times per summer. Since these evenings are not described as a regular daily offering, it is advisable to regard them as a possible seasonal feature rather than a fixed part of every travel plan. When looking for accommodation in Norrfors, you can therefore first decide whether nature trails, the river landscape, culture or a combination of these impressions should be the focus.

If you would then like to explore other places in the same broader area, here is a compact selection: Lögdeå, Bäcknäset, Nordmaling and Järnäs.
