Sköndal by Drevviken: Trails, Water and Culture

Sköndal combines a green park landscape with Drevviken, waterside walking trails and distinctive cultural impressions. Those planning a trip with active hours, swimming breaks and peaceful discoveries will find several different points of interest here. When looking for a holiday apartment in Sköndal, it is therefore worth first deciding which experiences you want to define your stay.

Park Landscape and Trails by Drevviken

The area around Stora Sköndal has the character of a housing estate set in a park. Small houses with apartments for seniors and staff are arranged freely amid lush greenery. The road network and buildings were carefully adapted to the existing topography and natural surroundings. Together with the natural and park landscape by Drevviken, this creates a local setting in which landscape and buildings appear closely connected, without requiring you to limit yourself to just one way of exploring the area.

The Drevvikens strandpromenad passes Stora Sköndal Manor. At the manor, the main route of the waterfront promenade continues farther from the shore through meadows and woodland towards the Flaten area. You can take these different routes into account when planning your day: By the water, lakeside experiences take centre stage, while the passage through meadows and woodland conveys a different impression of the landscape. Along Drevviken, there are paths for walking and jogging at Talludden and Lövudden.

Swimming, Kayaking and a Short Pilgrimage Walk

The family-friendly Sköndalsbadet on the shore of Drevviken offers swimming opportunities from the beach and the jetty. Drevviken lies immediately below the swimming pool area; there, you can swim from the sandy beach or the jetty. Another special feature is Stora Sköndal's outdoor pool. It is an open-air pool for people with disabilities and their relatives.

Between Sköndalsbadet and the sun terrace, an unmanned Kayakomat rents out single and tandem kayaks. This allows you to add an activity on the water to your stay. If you prefer travelling on foot, you can include Kärnordsvandring in your plans. This approximately two-kilometre pilgrimage walk follows Drevviken and passes nine stones bearing texts by author and theologian Margareta Melin. In this way, the route combines exercise by the lake with a literary and spiritual discovery.

Culture in the Local Setting

Stora Sköndal Church is also one of the area's prominent cultural points of interest. The church was built between 1927 and 1929 and inaugurated in 1929. It is one of 43 churches in Stockholm that receive special protection under the Cultural Heritage Act. For your stay, it provides a historical accent that combines well with a walk around Stora Sköndal or along the waterfront promenade. Along the way, you can get to know the area from different perspectives: through its landscape, its trails and its architectural history.

Getting There and Choosing Your Accommodation

Stora Sköndal can be reached by bus routes 188 from Gullmarsplan, 181 from Farsta and 143 from Älvsjö; they stop at the Stora Sköndal bus stop. These connections provide useful guidance when planning your journey and excursions without prior local knowledge. When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home, you can then consider whether swimming opportunities, the trails by Drevviken, Kärnordsvandring or the cultural impressions should be your main focus. Sköndal does not offer one standard day for this, but rather several clearly distinct ways to shape your stay.
