Södertälje: Culture, Walking Trails and the S/S Ejdern

Södertälje combines historic sites, opportunities for walks and unusual discoveries to create a diverse destination. From 1863 to 1888, the building was the summer villa of journalist and writer Wendela Hebbe. Torekällberget offers another perspective on the past: The open-air museum in central Södertälje takes visitors back to 19th-century Sörmland.

The Torekällberget district includes, among other things, a café, a pottery, a general store and a shop. At the farm and the croft, visitors can see rabbits, goats, sheep, cows and horses. Kusens backe is located close to the city centre. There you will find walking trails, an outdoor gym, lawns and picnic benches. The two places offer different options for the rhythm of your day: At Kanalholmen, the promenade and the island experience are the main attractions, while Kusens backe combines walking trails and exercise with a break on the lawns. These differences can play just as much of a role in choosing your accommodation as the cultural attractions.

Experiments and Trips with the S/S Ejdern

The outdoor park at Tom Tits Experiment includes, among other things, a plant maze. This adds an area focusing on observation and playful discovery to the historic attractions. In 2026, the S/S Ejdern is scheduled to offer, among other things, Saturday trips to Birka/Adelsö as well as trips to Farstanäs and Stockholm. The ship was launched on 14 May 1880 and is one of the oldest surviving steamships of the passenger-ship type typical of Sweden's archipelago.
