Vårdnäs offers several ways to shape your stay: a short walk through the Vårdnäs grounds, a longer section of the Östgötaleden, paddling experiences in the Kinda kanal lake system and special moments in the Vårdnäs Chapel. Those travelling with different interests can therefore flexibly divide the focus of the day between activity, water and reflection. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, the key question is therefore which of these experiences should define your stay.

Between a Short Circular Walk and a Longer Hiking Stage

The complete Vårdnäs Frälsarkrans walk is approximately 800 metres long. The circular route leads through the Vårdnäs grounds and offers opportunities for breaks and reflection. Beads have been placed in nature at ten locations. This gives the route a special structure: you can consciously take in each individual station and experience the walk at your own pace, without having to infer a particular walking time from the length of the route.

Those wishing to include a longer hike in their travel plans will find a different scale in the 16.8 km Vårdnäs–Hovetorp stage of the Östgötaleden. The stage runs via Stafsäter along the western shore of Lake Stora Rängen. This allows different hiking preferences to be taken into account when choosing accommodation: the short circular walk represents a manageable excursion, while the Östgötaleden stage covers a considerably longer distance.

Waterways in the Kinda kanal Lake System

Vårdnäs is also a starting point for experiences on the water. In Vårdnäs, canoes and kayaks are rented to overnight guests as well as to local residents. When paddling, Vårdnäs provides access to the entire Kinda kanal lake system, including the nearest lakes Stora Rängen, Lilla Rängen and Järnlunden. This opportunity offers a different perspective on the surroundings and suits a holiday in which not every day has to follow the same rhythm.

In addition, the St Birgittaways Pilgrim Trail includes a section between Vårdnäs and Vadstena. Those who enjoy being on the move can therefore choose between a short circular walk, a stage of the Östgötaleden, a section of the pilgrimage trail and a tour on the water.

Chapel, Meditation and an Open Atmosphere

Meditations, devotions and religious services are held in the Vårdnäs Chapel throughout the year. Everyone is welcome, regardless of their faith or whether they belong to no religion. This makes the chapel a place that you can include in your travel plans regardless of your personal religious affiliation. For day visits, the Vårdnäs Chapel was open to individuals and groups.

Vårdnäs therefore combines several different travel experiences: nature can be enjoyed on trails and on the water, while the chapel provides space for religious and non-religious visitors. Families and other travel groups can thus take different interests into account and alternate between active and more peaceful parts of their stay. When choosing your accommodation, consider which focus is decisive for your trip, and use Vårdnäs as a starting point for further planning.
