Tived brings together Lake Unden, trails through forest and marshland, local history and a living craft tradition. Sannerud offers several starting points for planning your trip: the Lilla Kungsleden begins there, and by the lake there is both a small bathing beach and a harbour for small boats. If you are looking for a holiday rental, consider which of these aspects of the area matters most for your stay.

Exploring by bike or on foot

For cyclists, Tived’s 15-mile cycling route network is a distinctive starting point for planning. One of the starting points is at the car park by Tiveds kyrka in Sannerud. Cycling routes extend from Tiveds samhälle, several farms and tourist accommodation around Tiveden National Park. These starting areas offer different reference points for a bike ride; the network is not limited to the village centre.

Those who prefer to explore on foot will find a variety of routes, each with its own character. The Kirchstig Tivedstorp–Sannerud passes through narrow valleys and over marshes. Historically, this church path was used on Sundays for the round trip to church. A walk along it is therefore also a chance to follow in the footsteps of the old church path. The Lilla Kungsleden also begins in Sannerud and is another way to start planning your day from there.

Konst-i-ring offers a different focus: this combined art and exercise trail runs through the forest and starts at the old school building in Sannerud. Alongside cycling and walking routes, it offers an art-focused way to explore the forest. If you are planning to spend several days in Tived, you can treat these different activities as separate ideas and choose your accommodation based on the kind of holiday you want.

Church, local history and crafts

Tiveds kyrka is in Västergötland on the eastern shore of Lake Unden, at the southern end of the village of Sannerud. Its nave was built in 1847, and the church is designed in the Neo-Romanesque style.

Another glimpse into local history can be found at the Tiveds Hembygdsförening local heritage farm, housed in the old school in Dammtorp. The farm includes ten additional buildings, each with its own descriptive sign. An activity house is dedicated to weaving, handicrafts and various forms of arts and crafts. This makes it a distinct cultural stop for anyone keen to discover traditional crafts and local history as well as enjoy outdoor activities.

Unden, local food and August events

In Sannerud, Lake Unden has a small bathing beach and a harbour for small boats. Food is another aspect of Tived worth discovering: Tiveds Lanthandel och krog uses seasonal ingredients. In its backyard, the business runs a smokehouse that produces wood-smoked pork belly and ham—a tradition that has long been maintained in Tiveden. On the return leg of the Kolarleden, the route passes through Sannerud, where you can stop for coffee or a meal.

If you would like to plan your visit around an August date, there are two events to keep in mind: Sannerudsmarken takes place on the last Saturday in August. It features numerous arts and crafts vendors as well as food and coffee. Tivedsdagen takes place on the second Sunday in August. When looking for a holiday rental, it may help to consider whether you want to discover Tived for its trails and lake, its local history and crafts, or the August events mentioned here.
