Fårbo combines a striking ridge with waterside experiences, a floodlit running track and historical discoveries. The village is on the E22, about 15 kilometres north of Oskarshamn. The swimming area at Fårbosjön has a small car park and a latrine toilet. A sandy beach and bathing jetty make the water a clear attraction, while the Ostkustleden offers a very different way to experience the surroundings. You can plan your stay around whether you are most interested in exercise, swimming or history.

Swimming and outdoor activities

The swimming area at Fårbosjön offers more than a beach and jetty: there is also a barbecue area, a partner swing and a diving tower. These different facilities give families and people travelling together a range of ways to spend time by the water. Those who want to swim can enjoy the sandy beach and bathing jetty; those who want to take a break or eat together can make use of the barbecue area. The swimming area is managed by the municipal leisure committee in collaboration with Fårbo FF. The small car park and latrine toilet are also located right by the swimming area.

For a different kind of exercise, Fårbo has a 2.4-kilometre floodlit running track. It complements the waterside activities with a clearly defined route for a run. If you like to alternate active and more relaxing activities when planning a trip, there are several options for your days: a running track, time at the swimming area or a longer hike along the Ostkustleden.

Explore the Ostkustleden at your own pace

The Ostkustleden is about 160 kilometres long and divided into eight sections. You can start and end your hike at any point along the trail. This gives you flexibility when choosing a section to hike: you do not have to plan around the entire trail, but can consider which part best suits your plans. In the wider region, the Ostkustleden is marked in yellow and orange.

The Ostkustleden crosses the E22 and leads to Fårbosjön, with its lovely swimming beaches. This brings together two of Fårbo’s defining features: hiking and water. If you are interested in the Ostkustleden, you can factor the trail’s length and sections into your day’s plans; if you would rather spend time by the shore, the swimming area has a sandy beach and bathing jetty. These offer different starting points for deciding what kind of holiday you are looking for.

Landscape and traces of history

From Fårbo, the Tuna-Fårboåsen forms a high, striking ridge to the southeast. There are larger prehistoric stone cairns on the Tuna-Fårboåsen and to the west of it. Alongside outdoor activities, this landscape and its early traces give a stay a historical perspective: the surroundings can be viewed not only as a place for exercise or swimming, but also as a place with visible traces of earlier times.

Another destination for history enthusiasts is Fårebo Manor. Built in 1714, it has retained its 19th-century appearance. At the entrance to Fårebo säteri stand preserved square granaries with pyramid roofs from the 17th-century estate. The manor house and granaries reflect different historical periods. When visiting, look at the shape of the buildings and the details that have been preserved: the square granaries with their pyramid roofs make a distinctive impression alongside the manor house.
