Bor – Railway Settlement, Forests and Lakes
Accommodation in Bor
Bor combines the characteristic development pattern of a railway settlement with forest landscapes, lakes and varied trails. The local structure developed from around 1900 onwards and gives the place its own historic character. At the same time, around Bor you will find opportunities for hiking, walking, mountain biking, fishing and birdwatching. When choosing your holiday apartment or holiday home, you can therefore consider whether you would particularly like to focus on railway history, nature experiences or active days outdoors.
Getting There and Character of the Village
Bor can be reached by bus, train and car and is located on National Road 27. Krösatåg trains stop at the station on the Kust till kust railway line. These various travel options make planning easier if you do not want to explore the region exclusively by car.
An important historic landmark is Bor’s old station house, dating from 1902. It now houses a café. The former inn at Gästgivarevägen 2 is also part of the village’s history; until 1922, it served as a stopping place for changing horses. Those interested in older transport routes and settlement development will therefore discover more in Bor than just through-traffic infrastructure.
By Museum Railway Through the Småland Landscape
During the summer months, the Ohsabanan museum railway runs between Ohs and Bor. The route passes through Småland’s original forest landscape and by small lakes and meadows. This is an independent way to get to know the landscape from a different perspective. In addition, the regional surroundings between Bor and Rydaholm, with Getaryggarna, offer a cultural environment of national interest. Older cultural routes, villages with 19th-century wooden buildings, manor-house environments and an older cultural landscape all form part of the defining scenery there.
Hiking and Mountain Biking Around Bor
The Skräddarebo recreation area lies on the edge of the village. There are natural trails for walking and hiking as well as mountain bike trails. One trail in the Skräddarebo area is 3.8 km long. The Mountainbike i Bor trail is 3.9 km long, classified as red and rated as moderate; it includes technical trails and steep sections. If you are mountain biking, you should take this information into account when planning your day. Bor also has a multisport arena for outdoor leisure and sports activities. Rörelseparken includes a pump track.
For a different kind of exercise, the Skräddareborundan is available. The circular walking route is 1.6 km long, flat and adapted for accessibility, and leads around a lake. In the nearby Lundsbo bokskog nature reserve, about 1.5 km outside Bor, there are also trails for walking, hiking and mountain biking. There you will find accessibility-adapted trails with firmly compacted gravel surfaces. The elevated shelter Kepsmacken has a barbecue area. Depending on your preferred daily rhythm, you can plan either a short, flat circuit or longer activities in the forest.
Lakes, Swimming, Fishing and Birdwatching
The lakes Furen and Flåren in the vicinity of Bor offer fishing opportunities. Fish species found there include zander, eel, pike, vendace and perch. The Hyltans bathing area is located on Lake Furen and has sandy and rocky shores, shallow water and a barbecue area. Those planning a stay by the water can combine swimming with a break by the lake there.
Södergårdsviken lies slightly more than 1 km south of Bor, at the northern tip of Lake Flåren. There you can go birdwatching, walk around the lake and visit a birdwatching tower. Parking is available at the birdwatching tower or on the access road. The Pinnarekulla wetland is also a destination for birdwatching and offers a diverse range of wildlife and birdlife. These places are suitable for travel plans that give nature observation and peaceful walks their own particular focus.
A Suitable Base for Your Trip
When looking for a holiday apartment in Bor, you can base your accommodation choice on your preferred combination of nature, activity and culture.
