Nature

The Illern nature reserve has several marked trails for hiking, jogging and skiing. Its landscape comprises coniferous forest, interspersed agricultural land and a lake; its rolling terrain was shaped by the most recent ice ages. It is also home to a rich and varied birdlife.

In the centre of Tranås lies the Ekbergsparken nature reserve. It is home to old stands of oak and hazel, with some trees estimated to be over 500 years old. Holavedens hembygdsgård in Ekbergsparken comprises cultural and historical buildings from the 18th century. Holavedsleden provides longer hiking experiences: the trail is 59 kilometres long and runs from Hätte to Gränna. Sommen365 is a joint nature map for the municipalities of Tranås, Boxholm and Ydre. It includes nature reserves, bathing spots, and hiking and cycling routes.

Culture

Eriksbergs museum documents the history of the fur industry in Tranås Municipality. On display are machinery, tools and other equipment used in fur production; permanent exhibitions are also dedicated to fur, art, school and local history.

Another historic site is Säby kyrka, a medieval church on Lake Säbysjön whose origins date back to the 12th century. It preserves an altarpiece with a depiction of a Pietà. The pulpit has 14 sculptures from the 17th century. The local page Säby provides additional regional orientation.

Gammelbyn Hultet comprises around twenty buildings of cultural and historical interest with historic interiors. The lifelike historic interiors provide insights into old rural culture and the craft environments of industrial society. Visitors can view the former fur workshop or hat shop there. Groups can visit Gammelbyn Hultet and take part in guided storytelling tours with knowledgeable guides.

The S/S Boxholm II also represents the region's industrial and maritime history. It is one of the last wood-fired steamships still in operation in Sweden; its boiler and steam engine remain in their original condition. Its berth is in the centrally located harbour of Tranås, which serves as a harbour for leisure boats. There is also a free-to-use ramp there for launching and taking boats out of the water.

Throughout the year, Tranås hosts several recurring cultural events, including exhibitions, music events, experiences and traditional celebrations. Public art and outdoor sculptures also adorn the city's streets and squares.

Water and leisure

Sommens badplats has a child-friendly, gently sloping sandy beach and large lawns for sunbathing and playing. This bathing spot has accessible toilets and changing rooms. The municipality's largest bathing spot also has a child-friendly sandy beach, as well as bathing jetties and a diving tower.

Ekmarkspark, centrally located in Tranås, is a recreational park with historic character and beautiful botanical features. The Svartån flows through the park; there is also a playground and a skate park.
