Lake Storsjön, riverbanks and views
Dvärsätt lies 17 kilometres northwest of Östersund. From here, there are views of the lake and the Jämtland mountains. At Grönänge, residential areas lie on the shore of Lake Storsjön; at Hästhagen, they lie on the shore of the Indalsälven River. The old country road through Dvärsätt offers another perspective; today it serves as a lakeside walking path.
Golf and winter activities
Sandnäset Golfklubb is located in Dvärsätt. The golf course has 13 holes and is described as a nature-oriented, hilly woodland and parkland course. Beautiful views of Lake Storsjön and the mountains are part of its scenery. If golf is the focus of your trip, this is a specific option to consider; check the course layout before you arrive.
In winter, there is a ski trail about four kilometres long in the golf course area. It complements the summer golf course with a seasonal opportunity to get active in the landscape. As trail maintenance should be checked before your trip, it is advisable to enquire before including the ski trail in your day’s plans.
Fishing and paths by the water
The Hissmofors fishing area includes the outflow waters of Lake Storsjön. These include the Indalsälven River, which flows north downstream from Dvärsätt through Krokom. In Avaviken and in the Dvärsätt–Bånntjärn area, rod fishing is free for everyone. The fishing area is considered accessible year-round. Before fishing, check the applicable rules, access conditions and area boundaries.
Dvärsätt’s large marina also tells of the village’s relationship with the water: it is connected to the former timber rafting industry. The walking path, harbour and fishing waters offer different ways to experience life by the shore. Together with the golf course and winter ski trail, they offer a range of options to consider when planning your stay.
Local history and culture in Nyland
Dvärsätt is first mentioned in a letter from 1431. Later, the railway and bridges changed the village’s connections: before the bridges were built, a ferry was used to cross from Dvärsätt to Rödön. After the railway opened to traffic in 1882, Dvärsätt gained a stopping place and a post office. These milestones make the village’s history tangible through specific routes and modes of transport.
A cultural walk through Nyland is also on record. It included visits to the Bergom, Nyland and Tomte farmsteads, where guests were introduced to local history and interesting facts. The visit included alpacas grazing at one of the farmsteads. The walk thus connects local history with a first-hand look at the farmsteads of Nyland.
Choose the right focus for your trip
The golf course and ski trail offer active days, while the walking path, fishing waters and historical traces reveal other sides of Dvärsätt. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on: golf, fishing, or a combination of lakeside scenery and local history?
The Sandnäset Golf clubhouse serves hot meals, open sandwiches, sausages, salads and fika throughout the season. The offering is seasonal; check opening hours before visiting.
