Unnaryd combines cultural history with lakes, hiking trails and paddling routes. Lake Unnen is located right by the village and offers opportunities for longer tours in addition to a day at the beach. At the same time, the Bonadsmuseum, historical sites and the traditional market invite you to get to know the region not only outdoors, but also through its history and traditions.

Culture and History in Unnaryd

An important point of interest is the Bonadsmuseum. There, you can book guided tours of the museum and park year-round. The museum also offers painting courses. The Bonad collections can be studied on site as well as digitally via Digitalt Museum. This makes a visit suitable both for a guided introduction and for anyone who would like to explore the collections in greater depth.

One of the village’s historical features is Vägvisaren. This is a boundary stone dating from 1777 that was moved to Unnaryd and used as a signpost. Brunnsbacka Sågkvarn adds a restored, water-powered sawmill with a mill and shingle planer to the cultural landscape. Those interested in older traces will find Bedjarör, an Iron Age burial ground with numerous remains of rare Iron Age stone cists.

Hiking Through the Landscape and Nature Reserve

Unnaryd also offers specific destinations for days spent in nature. More than 130 lichen species have been identified on beech trees in the Ödegärdet Nature Reserve. The Brunnsbackaleden trail runs through this nature reserve. The trail is approximately 4.1 kilometres long and starts at Hembygdsparken in Unnaryd. This information helps you choose between a shorter walk and more extensive day planning without associating the route with a walking time or difficulty level.

Another option is the Nässjaleden. The hiking trail is three kilometres long, passes through a varied landscape and reaches the lakeshore. This allows you to shape your stay according to your interests, combining culture with a shorter hike or a route through the nature reserve.

Lake, Beach and Paddling Routes

Lake Unnen has a bathing beach with a sandy shore, bathing jetty and an accessibility-adapted ramp. This gives the village a clear connection to the water, while the trails and cultural attractions provide variety. For canoeing, there is a 29-kilometre circular route that starts at Lake Unnen south of Unnaryd.

Another paddling route starts in Lake Unnen in Unnaryd and leads via a river to Lake Bolmen. It then continues southwards towards Bolmån and Lagan, which flow onwards to the sea. The various routes make it advisable to distinguish between a day at the beach, a hike and a longer paddling tour when planning.

Practical Information for Your Stay

Unnaryd offers various options for planning your day: for those interested in culture, the museum, guided tours, painting courses and historical sites are the main attractions; days in nature can be combined with the two hiking trails; and at the lake, swimming and paddling are additional options. Unnaryd also has a grocery store and restaurants. For bus journeys, take Hallandstrafiken route 431 to Hyltebruk. To continue to Halmstad, change to bus 400 in Hylte.

An additional insight into local life is the traditional market, which takes place on the second Wednesday of every month. If you would like to plan around this date, the market visit can be combined with the other cultural and nature experiences during your stay.
