Simlångsdalen combines extensive hiking landscapes, lakes and surprising cultural sites. The Hallandsleden runs through the centre, then follows the route of a former railway line and descends towards the Fylleån at Brogård. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home as a base for varied days away will therefore find many options here for planning a trip centred on nature, water and regional history.

Hiking between lakes, forests and viewpoints

Simlångsdalen has around ten hiking trails through wild nature, along beautiful lakes and through fairytale-like forests. For a manageable circular route, the 4.2-kilometre Brearedssjön Circuit is a good option; it runs around Lake Brearedssjön. The 8-kilometre Simlången Circuit passes through the Bröda and Veka nature reserves at its eastern end. Both routes provide a clear framework for planning the day without requiring you to commit to just one type of nature experience.

Longer routes also shape the surrounding area. The 250-kilometre Banvallsleden runs from Simlångsdalen along a former railway line through varied terrain. The 165-kilometre Hylteleden heads west or east and then returns to Simlångsdalen. The Hallandsleden hiking trail also runs through the village. In the southern hiking area, most trails can be accessed via the bathing area at Lake Brearedssjön, which is located next to the Vargaslätten garden. The northern hiking area begins at the old Simlångsgården farm in Gyltige.

Water experiences and nature reserves

Lake Brearedssjön next to Simlångsdalen offers the opportunity to swim in fresh water. In Simlångsdalen, you can also fish in Lakes Gyltigesjön, Töddesjön, Simlången and Brearedssjön, as well as in part of the Fylleån River. Canoe and kayak rentals, beginner courses and expeditions are available for exploring the local waters. This allows you to shape your stay in different ways, with hiking days, water activities or quieter hours by the lake.

In the nearby area, the Danska fall nature reserve and waterfall are located directly south of Simlångsdalen in Halmstad Municipality. The Gårdshultleden hiking trail passes Danska Fall and continues to the Gårdshult nature reserve. On the Smedhultaleden in the Gårdshult nature reserve, you can reach Halmstad Hill, a viewpoint with a wide view over Halmstad. These trails offer different highlights: in one case, the waterfall and nature reserve are the main attractions; in another, it is the viewpoint and the view over the city.

Culture, crafts and regional history

Vargaslätten is a 14-hectare Gesamtkunstwerk, where architecture, crafts, art and nature merge. Work on it began in 1917. The architect Sigfrid Ericson and his wife Ruth bought the site and gave it the name Vargaslätten. Those who want to discover not only landscapes but also designed places and their history while on holiday will find a distinctive cultural focus here.

Another historical stop is the Breareds Lanthandelsmuseum. It consists of a 19th-century shop, an adjoining house from the 1920s to the 1940s and a school museum. In addition, bookable nature-oriented culinary hikes and outdoor cooking courses are offered in Simlångsdalen. This makes it possible to broaden your view of the region through practical and culinary experiences.

Practical guidance for choosing accommodation

Simlångsdalen has several accommodation options and several restaurants. For self-catering, the Matöppet grocery shop provides an option for buying supplies. For cyclists heading towards Unnaryd, Simlångsdalen is the last place with an opportunity to buy groceries; Unnaryd is approximately 50 kilometres away. This information can be just as important on longer tours as deciding whether you are looking for accommodation closer to hiking trails, lakes or cultural destinations. The right holiday apartment or holiday home therefore depends above all on whether you want to fill your days mainly with circular routes, water activities, culture or longer distances.
