Jädraås combines impressive industrial heritage with hiking trails, historic railway experiences, cycling routes and a bathing area in the heart of the village.

Discover Industrial Heritage and Local History

Jädraås bruk and Tallås have been designated areas of national interest for the preservation of cultural heritage. The Jädraån, with its bridges, dams, canals, water pipes and power stations, is part of this cultural environment. This makes the history visible not only through individual buildings, but also through the technical facilities shaped by the water.

Another distinctive feature is Skogsbyn. The settlement was designed by Ralph Erskine and, with its well-considered architecture and site plan, is regarded as one of the outstanding examples of 1950s development in the district. Jädraås’s industrial heritage is also closely connected to social life: in 2020, Jädraås samhälle received the “Årets industriminne” award for its extensive voluntary commitment.

For independent exploration, the Bruksvandring is a good option: a self-guided circular walk following signs and historical information about Jädraås. Guided tours of Jädraås Hytta are available; these must be booked at least three days in advance.

Hiking and Cycling with Different Distances

The landscape around Jädraås ranges from easy trails through extensive pine heaths to more demanding paths through hilly, wild nature. The Gästriketriangeln hiking area connects Rönnåsen, Åmot and Jädraås and is approximately 5.3 Swedish miles long in total. For planning your day, this approximate overall distance is an important distinction from shorter individual walks.

The Gästrikeleden also offers different directions: near Jädraås, the approximately 27 Swedish mile, or 270 km, trail branches south towards Kungsberget, north towards Åmot and northeast towards Rönnåsen (Ockelbo). It is marked in a clear orange colour on trees, posts and signs. This allows you to take your preferred type of hike into account when planning your trip, without making every day the same.

For cyclists, the Jädraås Bike Arena starts at STF Jädraås Herrgård. There are eight signposted MTB routes and two gravel routes, ranging from approximately 3 to approximately 30 km in length. MTB bikes and fatbikes are also available for hire locally. Two cross-country skiing trail centres are just a short walk from STF Jädraås Herrgård, expanding the options for a trip with changing activity ideas.

Water, Railways and Regional Discoveries

Brogår´n is a bathing area by the dam in the centre of Jädraås. Facilities include a jetty, a grassy area and a sandy beach. If you do not want to spend a travel day exclusively hiking or cycling, you can plan this place as a separate water-based option.

Ångtågsresan in Jädraås is an authentic rail travel experience that conveys what railway journeys looked like in the first half of the 20th century. In addition, the Jädraås-Tallås Järnväg, or JTJ for short, is a 6 km-long heritage railway in Jädraås. The two railway attractions are particularly well suited to a trip combining historic technology with hands-on experiences.

The local character also includes Jädraås surdegsbageri, with various types of sourdough bread and fika pastries. Visits to ELASTIC Rural in Jädraås are available by appointment from May to September. For more destinations, you can also explore Ockelbo, Kolforsen and Åmotsbruk.

You can focus on the cultural environment, historic circular walks, hiking and cycling routes of different lengths, water, railways and regional discoveries, and incorporate your holiday apartment or holiday home accordingly into your personal trip planning.
