Strömsbruk combines forest landscapes, waterways and a local history closely connected to the ironworks. Those planning a trip with nature experiences, canoeing and cultural discoveries will find various starting points here for planning their days. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can therefore consider which of these aspects of the area should shape your trip most.

Forest Trails for Hiking and Cross-Country Skiing

A specific opportunity for exercise in nature is the Strömsbruk elljusspår. The loop is 2.5 kilometres long and is suitable for hiking and cross-country skiing. It runs through pine heaths and spruce forest, allowing you to experience different types of woodland over a short distance. About halfway around, there is a shelter directly beside the trail. You can eat food you have brought with you there. The length of the loop is easy to take into account when planning an active day, without having to derive a specific walking time from it.

Lakes, Rivers and the Nordanstigs Kanotled

Those who want to discover Strömsbruk from the water can include the Nordanstigs Kanotled in their travel plans. The canoe trail is approximately 60 kilometres long in total and leads to Strömsbruk and the coast. Along the way, it passes through large and small lakes, narrow rivers and some navigable rapids. The route also includes around 15 portages or land transports. The different stretches of water and these passages are particularly important to consider when planning a canoe trip: At the relevant points, the boat is carried onwards over land.

Holm and Orn: A Landscape with a Distinctive Character

Holm is designated as a cultural-historical monument. The area surrounds the Holmsjöarna lakes and extends from the Holmströmmens Forsenkopf to the first rapid at Strömsbruk. This rapid is now below the regulated water level. Holm also contains the remains of buildings from the former Holm farm. The landscape is known for its great diversity of species, with many rare species of flora and fauna, as well as for its rich birdlife.

Another landscape designation is Orn. It extends from Strömsbruk along the Harmångersån River to its mouth in the Gulf of Bothnia. At the outer end lies the long shingle sandbank Ornskarpen. Orn offers opportunities for trout fishing, as well as rich shoreline flora and birdlife.

Ironworks, Jussi Björling and Jussifesten

The history of Strömsbruk developed around an ironworks that operated from 1672 to 1889. The town’s identity also includes a connection to music history: Jussi Björling’s paternal ancestors came from Strömsbruk. In Strömshall, the Jussi Björling Society holds Jussifesten every year. This gives the area a cultural connection alongside its nature and water experiences, which can be taken into account when planning a trip.

Strömsbruk as a Starting Point for Your Planning

For travel and regional orientation, Strömsbruk has bus connections towards Harmånger and Hudiksvall. Depending on your preferred focus, you can base your accommodation search on an active day at the elljusspår, an excursion on the Nordanstigs Kanotled or nature and cultural themes such as Holm, Orn and the history of the ironworks.
