Hamra combines untouched woodland, varied hiking trails and historic sites to create a destination with an unusually wide range of different experiences. The oldest part of Hamra National Park is one of the few untouched forests in central Sweden. Those who want not only to observe nature but also to experience it along different routes will find a suitable basis for planning their trip here.

Hiking Trails between Primeval Forest and Marshland

Urskogsslingan is an approximately one-hour hiking trail through the primeval forest in Hamra National Park. Myrlandskapet offers a different landscape experience: This two-part hiking trail leads across the national park’s marshland. Hamraleden, by contrast, is designed as an approximately six-hour hike through varied nature throughout Hamra National Park. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, you can therefore already consider whether short nature experiences, a route across the marshland or a longer hike should be the focus of your stay.

Another distinctive landscape feature is Urbergsbassängen. It is the largest bedrock basin of the Svartån and was carved out of the rock by glacial meltwater. Such geological details give the landscape a history of its own and complement the immediate impressions along the trails.

Access and Nature Observation

The Svartån entrance to Hamra National Park can also be reached via the village of Hamra along Road 310. This information is important for your planning if you want to organize your stay around a specific entrance. Another nature experience is offered by the observation tower near Myrentrén: In April, black grouse displaying and cranes arriving with their spring calls can be observed there.

Every year, around 25 students from Los school guide groups from the region at various stations along two loops in Hamra National Park. In the afternoon, it is open to the general public. This offering brings a special, communal perspective to the stay and may be of interest to travelers who enjoy combining nature with vivid explanations.

Historic Sites in the Village

Hamra also has notable destinations away from the forest trails. Hamra Church was inaugurated in 1872. It stands 457 meters above sea level, and the church steps offer far-reaching views. The old Hamra gamla kyrkogård cemetery was put into use in the mid-18th century and used until the 1860s. Erik Persson Pulkkinen’s gravestone can still be seen there.

A path leads uphill from the turnoff in the village to the old Hamra gamla kyrkogård cemetery, where an information board is located. This makes it possible to plan a visit focused on cultural history as a separate part of the itinerary. Families can choose between forest, marshland, wildlife observation and historical impressions without limiting the trip to just one type of experience.
