Bjuräker combines a multifaceted cultural history with lake landscapes, nature observation opportunities and options for active days. Those planning a trip can choose between historical impressions, swimming areas, hiking trails and winter activities. This combination makes the area interesting for families who do not want every day to be the same.

Church art and living history

A special cultural starting point is Bjuråkers kyrka. Its predecessor was a medieval church that had been built by the 14th century at the latest. The present stone church was inaugurated in October 1750. In the choir there is a wooden sculpture of Saint George on horseback with a praying princess, created by Haaken Gulleson at the beginning of the 16th century. At this one location, visitors can therefore experience both the long history of the church and a specific work of medieval art.

At Bjuråkers Forngård, historic buildings illustrate further aspects of the region’s past. The forest museum is housed in a two-storey log building. Jens-Ors is a multi-room house from the 1750s that was moved from the village of Tjärna. Kyrkstugan is considered the only surviving church cottage in Hälsingland. A recurring cultural event is Bjuråkersstämman, a local heritage festival and folk music gathering held annually on the third Sunday in July.

Landscape between hills and lakes

Bjuråkers kyrka is located on a hill and offers wide views over cultivated farmland towards the northern Dellen. Snipåsen provides a different landscape impression with its landslide escarpment and a south-facing slope with species-rich vegetation. It is also home to valuable and species-rich snail fauna. Avholmsberget Café & Restaurang offers views over the Dellen lakes and complements the nature experiences with an established vantage point.

Water, trails and regional excursions

There are several different options for a day by the water in the area around Bjuråker. In Svågadalen, there is a prepared swimming area at Lake Havra with a bathing jetty, changing rooms, swings and a barbecue area. Svågadalen also has hiking trails and a pilgrim’s path. In winter, ski tracks and snowmobile trails are prepared in Svågadalen. Fönebo is a child-friendly swimming area where visitors can swim, go stand-up paddleboarding or ride a pedal boat. Depending on the weather and your interests, you can therefore switch between culture, exercise, water activities and winter pursuits.

The region’s industrial history also offers notable destinations. Movikens masugn was built in Moviken in 1795 to supply the bar iron forge in Strömbacka. The three furnaces form a well-preserved core of the facility that can still be visited today; much of the original machinery has also been preserved. The restored blast furnace illustrates how pig iron was produced. In the area around Bjuråker, Strömbacka smedja is considered the last Walloon forge in the world still in operation.

In the surrounding region, Dellenbanan offers a 54-kilometre rail experience every summer, which can be explored by rail bike starting from Delsbo station. When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home in Bjuräker, the desired focus of the trip is therefore particularly important: culture enthusiasts will have different priorities from families planning days by the water or guests who want to make use of hiking and winter activities. Accommodation can therefore be selected according to the experiences intended to shape the stay.
