Holiday apartment in La Copa: Church, Festivals and Landscapes
La Copa is characterised by extensive agriculture and forest landscapes. The cultural character of the district includes prominent testimonies to its religious history, living traditions and designated trails. The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Consolación is one of the most important sights in La Copa. It was established as a parish in 1904, making it one of the town’s clearly identifiable historical reference points.
Culture and History
The religious architecture also includes the rebuilt Ermita del Calvario, which crowns the district of the same name. This should be distinguished from the first Ermita del Monte Calvario: it was built in 1899 as the final station of a Way of the Cross and stands on a raised hill. Both names refer to different historical contexts and form part of La Copa’s cultural character.
Craft traditions are also associated with the area. Esparto grass found in La Copa is used locally to make traditional espadrilles, known as esparteñas, as well as other practical items. The raw material is therefore not only part of the landscape but is also associated with a specific local use.
Festivals and Traditions
La Copa’s festival calendar includes the Fiesta de San Antón in La Copa de Bullas. It is celebrated on the weekend closest to 17 January, the feast day of Saint Anthony the Abbot. After Mass, the Subasta takes place in Plaza de la Paz.
Another named tradition is the Baile del Inocente, also known as the Baile de Ánimas. This is an auction dance performed to pasodobles, jotas or malagueñas. On the eve of 8 December, the campana de auroros de La Copa also walks through the district’s streets singing.
Trails and Landscape
The Sendero de la Fuente de la Higuera SL-MU 34 is directly connected with La Copa for exploring the surrounding area: the trail begins and ends on Calle Comunidad Autónoma. The route approaches the Rambla de los Muletos, an ecologically significant wetland with high biodiversity. This means that the same named trail has both its starting and ending points in the district and a connection to this wetland.
Another signposted trail is the Sendero de la Silla de la Copa SL-MU 33. When the markings are followed, it presents no difficulties. In addition, a project for the Mirador de La Copa included the renovation of damaged areas, additional safety features and the expansion of the viewing platforms. The Mirador is mentioned in connection with such a project; the individual measures concern its structural and safety-related design.
When comparing holiday apartment offers in La Copa, you can check the exact location, type of accommodation and possible occupancy on the respective offer pages.
