Carrasquilla is located in sub-Baetic terrain with limestone hills. The landscape includes irrigated orchards with peach and apricot trees, as well as the cultivation of cut flowers in greenhouses.

Nature

The ecological park in Carrasquilla includes the Rambla del Gilico and a nature interpretation centre. The Parque de Turismo Activo Coto de las Maravillas includes a 110-hectare woodland that forms part of public forest no. 34, named “Rambla de Gilico y los Cambrones”. Birds of prey such as eagle owls, peregrine falcons and golden eagles live in the natural areas of Carrasquilla.

The Parque de Turismo Activo Coto de las Maravillas is currently temporarily closed. After the La Carrasquilla turn-off, the entrance to the complex can be reached via the Camino de la Fuente de Juan González forest road, which leads to the right, and after a further 3 km. The park includes a nature classroom with various exhibitions throughout the year, as well as talks and seminars. The nature adventure park offers activities such as zip-lining, archery and hiking routes.

Culture

The patron-saint festivals of La Carrasquilla take place in July in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of the area. The festivities include a Eucharistic celebration on the feast day and a procession through the streets of the area with the small image of the patron saint. This cultural setting is complemented by the area’s small hermitage, which was built in the 1980s.

Connections

Carrasquilla can be reached via the regional road connecting Canara and Campillo. A footbridge over the Rambla de Cobos connects Carrasquilla with Casa Alta. Thus, both the road connection and a distinctive connection across the landscape feature of the rambla form part of the local structure.

Cuisine

Carrasquilla’s cuisine includes vegetables in stews and potajes. Pork or lamb is used in migas or as a roast. Local culinary traditions also include olives preserved in brine, prickly pears eaten in summer, and Pero de alcuza. This apple variety is eaten fresh, as compote or in pies.

Activities

The Circuito de La Carrasquilla has hosted a Spanish quadcross championship and is associated with events in the national motocross championship. Alongside its natural and cultural areas, motorsport is therefore also one of Carrasquilla’s explicitly mentioned facets.
