Archivel: Ancient Traces, Nature and Festivals
Accommodation in Archivel
Archivel combines archaeological traces, religious architecture, natural attractions and public festivals. At Cerro de las Fuentes, archaeological remains of a site dating to the 3rd millennium BC, as well as traces of the important Argaric culture, have been found. On the same hill are the ruins of a small fort from the 1st century BC. A thin wall surrounded the fort, which also had two towers at the entrance. The hill therefore brings together several historical testimonies and a defined route from its foot to its flattened summit.

History and Architecture
Further historical traces can be found at Casa Noguera in the surroundings of Archivel. The documented settlement there dates back to the 3rd. In addition, Roman settlement from the 1st century BC through Late Antiquity has been documented at Casa Noguera. These two chronological references point to a long settlement history extending from early prehistoric periods to Roman antiquity.
Religious architecture is also part of the local character. The church of Archivel dates from the 18th century and has a floor plan in the shape of a Latin cross. Its nave is covered by a barrel vault. At the Ermita de Santa Bárbara, a distinctive clock recalls its origins: it was brought from the Castillo de Caravaca and installed in 1903. The church and ermita thus preserve different testimonies to the religious and local architectural history.
Nature and Trails
Among the named natural attractions of the Pedanía Archivel is Los Ojos, a named spring. A path leads from the foot of Cerro de las Fuentes to its flattened summit. The spring and the path represent two different aspects of the landscape: Los Ojos designates a specific natural destination, while the ascent opens up Cerro as a setting with archaeological traces and a historic fort.
Sporting Routes
The “Desafío Arcilasis” included the formats 50 km Ultra Trail, 27 km Trail, 15 km Promo Trail and 50 km MTB. The routes ran over tracks, paths and ravines, and through Mediterranean scrubland. The third edition was a mountain-sports event held in Archivel that brought together sport, history and solidarity. The different formats and types of route therefore formed part of a single event that connected sporting distances with the landscapes of the competition.
Festivals and Traditions
The Feria del Cordero Segureño y de la Ganadería Extensiva combines livestock exhibitions with gastronomic tastings, craft workshops and other activities for the public. At the patron-saint festivities scheduled in Archivel from 3 to 8 December in honour of Santa Bárbara, gastronomic, cultural, religious, child-friendly and entertainment activities were planned. On 4 December, the celebrations also included a traditional flower offering and a procession in honour of the patron saint. For events with a specified period, current dates should be checked before travelling.
