Paramio – Forests, Trails and Sanabrian Architecture

Paramio lies in a landscape of oak and chestnut forests. The Sierra de San Juan extends around the village; trails lead from Paramio through the forests and the Sierra de San Juan to other areas of the Sanabria region.

The forest, the Sierra and the wider Sanabria region are therefore among the village’s geographical reference points. The trails connect these landscapes without forming a single continuous route: the surroundings of Paramio extend from the immediate forest area to other parts of the region. Culture in Stone and Wood

Paramio preserves traditional buildings of the Sanabria region. Their stone and timber construction reflects the Sanabrian identity. A distinctive architectural detail can be found at the church: the altar is set horizontally into the southern exterior wall of the building beneath the portico.

There is also a Latin inscription from Paramio that is notable for its onomastics and formulas. Its function, however, remains unclear. Paramio thus brings together traditional architectural forms, an unusually embedded church altar and a Latin inscription whose function is unresolved.

Routes for Different Forms of Travel

The “El Filo” trail leads from Paramio towards Robleda. Paramio also has routes for mountain biking, as well as routes for running and trail running. The circular route “Caminos tradicionales de Sanabria II” passes through Paramio and continues towards Ferreros.

The routes mentioned differ in terms of their form of travel and their course. Mountain biking, running and trail running represent different ways of getting around, while “El Filo” and “Caminos tradicionales de Sanabria II” indicate specific directions. One trail heads towards Robleda, while the circular route continues towards Ferreros. Together with the routes through the forests and the Sierra de San Juan, they form a network of named connections, sporting trails and paths to other areas of the Sanabria region.

Getting to the Route

To access the “Camino Robleda Cervantes San Juan” route, the approach leads from the A-52 via Exit 75, the N-525 and the local Remesal–Paramio–Robleda road. This sequence connects the main and local roads on the way to the route. The named roads thereby form a clear sequence from the main transport route to the local connection to Paramio and Robleda.
