Robledillo – Granite Landscape, Las Veredas and Culture

Robledillo lies on the shady side of one of the first foothills of the Sierra de la Paramera at an altitude of 1,156 metres. To the north of the village stretches the plain of the Valle Amblés, through which the Río Adaja flows. To the east, the Arroyo del Berrocal de la Duza forms Robledillo’s boundary; its course features riverside vegetation.

Robledillo’s granite landscape includes extensive scree fields, large rounded granite boulders and weathering hollows in which water can collect. The municipality of Solosancho, to which Robledillo belongs, is included in the protected landscape of the Sierras de la Paramera and La Serrota.

Location

The N-502 enters Robledillo from the east and crosses the village from east to west.

Hiking and Cycling

The municipality of Solosancho has established the Las Veredas route as a signposted and georeferenced circular hiking trail; it begins in Robledillo and returns to the central square of the same village. Las Veredas is a circular hiking trail starting in Robledillo or Villaviciosa. The route is 18.6 kilometres long, has an estimated duration of five hours, includes 507 metres of ascent and is rated medium in difficulty. The whole year is considered the recommended hiking season for Las Veredas. Length, estimated duration, elevation gain and difficulty provide different points of reference when comparing hiking options.

Celtibike is a non-competitive cycling event whose route passes through the municipality of Solosancho and crosses its four associated villages, Solosancho, Baterna, Robledillo and Villaviciosa.

Culture and History

From the 15th to the 19th century, the Villa of Villaviciosa and the villages of Baterna, Gomerrendura, Jimén Sancho, Mesegar de Solosancho and Robledillo formed a lordship. The Church of Santa Teresa de Jesús in Robledillo dates from the final years of the 20th century. Robledillo has an old horseshoeing stock, known as the Potro de Herrar.

A fountain with natural spring water stands in Robledillo’s central square. Villaviciosa is home to the Castro de Ulaca, an archaeological site of Vettonian origin. The cave known as Casa de los Moros is considered a destination for excursions in the area around Robledillo. As part of Luna Celta, the programme was extended to Robledillo, where a concert by the group Trisfahan took place.
