The Casa de la Madera features a permanent exhibition on wood, its use as an innovative and sustainable building material, and its origins in trees. It also includes an area dedicated to sustainable forest management and a small xylotheque.

The viewpoint at the Casa de la Madera offers views of the Comunero de Revenga, the valley of the Arlanza River, and the peaks of Neila and Urbión. The exhibition and the distant views therefore provide two different focal points.

Building History and Archaeology

The parish church of San Esteban was built in several construction phases, from the late Romanesque period through to the Renaissance. The Ermita de San Roque is a rectangular building with a spacious porch; around it, approximately fourteen Stations of the Cross are visible in the paving.

The Castro de Peña la Mina is located at the top of a sandstone outcrop at an elevation of 1,395 m. Its surviving remains consist of an accumulation of medium-sized and large stone blocks, 3 to 5 m wide, 1.20 m high in the central section and 75 m long overall.

The Ermita del Carrascal has an apse dating from the 14th to the early 15th century and was rebuilt at the beginning of the 18th century. Historical architectural forms and archaeological remains can be distinguished here by period, form and elevation.

The 2024 Jornadas Micológicas held in Canicosa de la Sierra included excursions into the forest and the collection of specimens, cooking workshops, expert talks, exhibitions and audiovisual presentations. The programme also included a gastronomy fair and tastings.
