Eiras: Pazos, Winery and Archaeological Heritage

Casa de Justino Nóvoa is also known as Pazo de Eiras and is one of the two Pazos in Eiras. At the gate to the inner courtyard, it features a distinctive heraldic stone carving. The heraldic coat of arms dates from the 17th century and was moved here from Toscaña at the beginning of the 20th century. A balcony and pyramid-shaped pinnacles are also part of Casa de Justino Nóvoa.

The name Eiras also appears in the parish of Eiras (Santa Ouxea), where O Castro de Eiras is located. Thus, the place name is associated with both the Pazo and the archaeological site.

O Castro de Eiras is an archaeological site in the parish of Eiras (Santa Ouxea) in San Amaro. The Igrexa de Santa Ouxea de Eiras is one of the places of interest in San Amaro. The Buddhist monastery Chu Sup Tsang is located in the village of Ventoselo de Beariz. Ventoselo de Beariz belongs to the municipality of San Amaro in the province of Ourense.

The place name Eiras is therefore associated both with the historic building in the village and with the parish of Eiras (Santa Ouxea). At O Castro de Eiras, the name identifies the archaeological site, while Casa de Justino Nóvoa and Pazo de Eiras are two names for the same building. The Chu Sup Tsang monastery is separately associated with the village of Ventoselo de Beariz, which belongs to the municipality of San Amaro in the province of Ourense.

History

The Parque Arqueológico da Cultura Castrexa opened in the vicinity of Eiras in 2014. It is one of four centres in Galicia’s archaeological heritage network.

The Castro de San Cibrao de Lás is located in the vicinity of Eiras, on a 472-metre-high hill between the municipalities of San Amaro and Punxín. The Castro de San Cibrao de Lás is one of the largest and best-preserved archaeological Castro sites in Galicia. The Castro de San Cibrao de Las is located in the vicinity of Eiras and is an archaeological site with modern museum facilities.
