Coast and Paths

The Ruta do Faro connects the Faro de Lariño with Ximprón Beach. The walking trail is three kilometres long, has a low level of difficulty and takes approximately 45 minutes. It begins at the Faro de Lariño and ends in Ximprón. Along the way, the route follows the shoreline directly alongside the sea until it reaches Ximprón Beach.

With its manageable length and approximate duration of 45 minutes, the Ruta do Faro remains a compact coastal path. Its low level of difficulty is just as much a feature of the Ruta do Faro as its course directly alongside the sea. The starting point at the lighthouse and the end point at Ximprón Beach connect, along the same route, a structure by the water with another stretch of coast.

Lighthouses and History

The Faro de Lariño was built in the first third of the 19th century. The lighthouse reaches a height of 27 metres above sea level and also marks the beginning of the Ruta do Faro.

Another distinctive structure is the Faro de Punta Ínsua. It is a stone-built civil structure with characteristic architecture; the beauty of its surroundings is also one of this lighthouse’s notable features. In Lariño, close to the sea, the ruins of an old windmill have also been preserved. This windmill was built around 1914 and adds a preserved complex of ruins to the historical traces along the coast.

Beach and Landscape

Playa de Lariño consists of an approximately two-kilometre-long sandspit and a series of coves. The sandspit defines the beach through its approximate extent, while the coves complement it with a more finely varied coastal form. Playa de Lariño is located in Carnota on the border with Muros. In the Galician tourism itinerary “Playas de Mar Adentro”, Playa de Lariño in Carnota is assigned as a stop on the first day.

Ancoradoiro lies on the border with Muros and is regarded as a landscape complex with dunes, pine forest and lagoons.

Cultural Details

The Muíño de Punta Insua is part of Lariño’s cultural character. The windmill has a cylindrical tower and a rotating roof. The two structural components clearly differ in their form and function: the tower is cylindrical, while the roof can rotate.

The Church of San Martiño also preserves numerous statues of saints inside. Among them, the figure of Saint Martin, the patron saint of the parish of Lariño, is given particular prominence. The church interior therefore combines a larger collection of religious representations with the patron saint explicitly associated with the parish.
