Landscape and Setting

La Vall del Bac is one of two districts of la Vall de Bianya and belongs to the protected area of Alta Garrotxa. The riera de la Vall del Bac runs through the valley; this watercourse carries water year-round. The protected status and the permanently flowing watercourse are clearly identified landscape features of la Vall del Bac. The valley's regional setting and a permanently present landscape element therefore stand directly alongside one another here.

Churches and Manor Houses

The church of Sant Andreu de Porreres was the parish church of la Vall del Bac. It was first documented in 946. Santa Maria de Sacot is located in la Vall del Bac directly beside the old Llongarriu manor house. Both are situated on the northern slope of the Serra de Malforat. If you would like to reach Santa Maria de Sacot on foot, the path opposite the Hostal de la Vall del Bac leads to the church. Another option is the track to the Llongarriu bridge.

Santa Maria de Sacot is also known as Santa Maria de Llongarriu and as Mare de Déu dels Àngels de Llongarriu. The first records of the Llongarriu manor house date back to the 14th century. The church of Sant Feliu del Bac is also located in la Vall del Bac on the northern slope of the Serra de Malforat. On the southern slope of Puig Ou, the church of Sant Miquel de la Torre lies near the manor house known as La Torre. La Torre de la Vall del Bac is located near the Romanesque church of Sant Miquel de la Torre.

Hiking Trails

The Vall dels Sentits route begins at the Hostal de la Vall del Bac. It runs via the tower to Sant Andreu de Porreres.
