Sa Cabaneta: Siurell Craft and Ceramics

Siurells: a craft with a long family tradition

The family studio Ca Madò Bet dels Siurells has been making Siurells for more than 100 years and is considered Mallorca’s oldest Siurell workshop. Its long-standing focus on craftsmanship and family character make it a special point of reference for anyone interested in this Mallorcan craft. Can Bernadí Nou offers another perspective: a family’s fourth generation is dedicated to this craft, and the Siurells are made entirely by hand. In Sa Cabaneta, you can therefore find both a workshop with more than a century of production tradition and a craft that has been passed down through generations of one family.

There are currently two pottery workshops in Sa Cabaneta. Together with the Museu del Fang, they present ceramics from more than one perspective: the making of pottery and the study of ceramic objects. The museum was founded in 2002 to showcase the variety of techniques, forms and functions of these objects. The Ruta del Fang through Marratxí

For the Mare de Déu de Agosto festival, the bed of the deceased Virgin Mary is traditionally prepared in the church. This custom belongs to a different festival from the Sant Marçal celebration on 30 June. People come to Sa Cabaneta from all over Mallorca for this celebration to honour the saint. The two traditions thus have different emphases: the veneration of the saint at a celebration attended by visitors from across Mallorca, and a special church custom during the August festival.
