Costitx is home to numerous archaeological sites. The Son Corró sanctuary dates from the post-Talaiotic period, around the 4th century BC.

Location

Costitx is a small inland municipality in the centre of Mallorca, in the Pla de Mallorca region.

Culture and History

The Son Corró archaeological site is associated with three bronze bull heads. The originals are kept in Madrid, while replicas can be found in the Casa de Cultura in Costitx.

Local architectural and historical attractions include the 18th-century parish church of Santa Maria, the Mare de Déu chapel, a cistern dating from 1886, and a fountain and waterwheel from the Muslim period.

The signposted Sencelles-Costitx Archaeological Route can be explored on foot or by bicycle.

The Mallorca Astronomical Observatory is located in Costitx and offers guided visits by prior arrangement.

Costitx en Flor, also known as the Flower Fair, takes place on 1 May. The programme includes plants, typical products, handicrafts, cultural activities and traditional dances.
