Prieres is one of the villages and hamlets in Redes Biosphere Reserve. The village lies on the right bank of the Orlé River and below Picu Les Llames. A recreational area with a viewpoint also belongs to Prieres.

Culture and Village Character

The traditional village character of Prieres includes hórreos and paneras. Prieres also preserves numerous traditional stone and wooden buildings with walls made of cebatu, a hazelwood wattle construction. The main lane of Prieres has an underground passage.

Casa La Salona preserves a passage that crosses the village’s main street. Casa de Nemesia preserves engravings dated to 1638. Prieres also has a chapel dedicated to Santa Ana; the residents rebuilt it in 1895.

The patron saint’s festival of Prieres on 26 July, the day of Santa Ana, traditionally includes a procession and the „puya del ramu“.

Nature and Paths

Prieres can be reached via a short, steep road that branches off the local road to Bueres. Tanes, Prieres and Abantro together form a route through the Tercia de Tanes. Prieres is also a starting point for excursions along the Cordal de Trapa mountain ridge.

The circular hike Prieres–Busllar–Pico de Trapa or Muezca begins at the designated car park at the entrance to Prieres. The La Cantera spring is located at the end of the village.

When planning, you can consider the different types of paths separately and organise them according to your preferred activity. When observing nature, listening and photography stand alongside one another as two different approaches.

In autumn, the rutting of the deer in the area around Prieres near Peña Burllar can be heard through the stags’ bellowing for about a month; if you set out early, you can photograph the males courting.
