Cedemonio at the Doiras Reservoir

An account from the 17th century connects the hermitage of San Pedro in Cedemonio with the tradition that the area’s fierce winds were interpreted as demonic screams. The names Pedras de San Pedro and Quiastolitas belong to the tradition surrounding Cedemonio; by contrast, the classification of chiastoliths as an icon and emblem refers to the Parque Histórico del Navia. Geographical and geological traces

El Castelón is located on a slate spur at an altitude of 347 metres above the confluence of the Urubio and the Navia. El Castelón is included in the Inventory of Asturias’ Cultural Heritage. In the Parque Histórico del Navia, chiastoliths are regarded as an icon and emblem of the area’s geographical, spatial and cultural identity. A deposit of chiastoliths has been documented in the Cotos area of Cedemonio.
