Culture and history

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Luz in La Almolda is a late Gothic church from the 16th century and was recently restored. The Convento de San Antonio is a small hermitage located within the built-up area of La Almolda. The Casa del Prior is located on Plaza del Mercado in La Almolda.

The townscape includes several distinctive buildings in the Aragonese Renaissance style, with arches and projecting roof eaves. The Dance almoldano is traditionally considered to have been performed continuously since the 13th century.

Casa Miguelé is an exhibition centre in La Almolda that conveys the life of the 20th century through objects, everyday items, documents and graphic materials. The exhibition rooms cover wine, agriculture, women, water, household life, crafts, animals and Matacía. Casa Miguelé offers guided tours by prior appointment; exhibitions, workshops and routes in the surrounding area are also organised in connection with the centre.

The topics mentioned can be organised according to the desired perspective: architecture and religious buildings offer a different approach from the documentary exploration of everyday life in the past. Nature trails and landscape observation, in turn, represent a separate area of interest. The emphasis placed on the townscape, exhibition and trails can also be guided by personal interests, without these areas merging into a single focus.

Nature and trails

The local LA 1 route is signposted in the Sierra de Santa Quiteria; it is 12.5 kilometres long. The routes there are of ethnological interest, as they pass near old lime kilns, livestock watering troughs, cisterns for collecting mountain water and sheepfolds. For your own planning, the trails can be distinguished by length and ethnological focus.

The Ermita de Santa Quiteria is a Baroque hermitage from the 16th century with a public picnic area and views across the entire plain.

The surrounding landscapes are home to, among other species, partridges, hoopoes, foxes, wild boar and invertebrates with special adaptations. Rosemary is the predominant plant species in the area; holm oaks, thyme, ontinas, camomile, broom and various types of thistle are also found there.
