Nature

In the wider surroundings of El Rincón, Enebrales de Punta Umbría is one of the few remaining mixed forests of junipers and Phoenician junipers on the Andalusian coast. Signposted walking and cycling routes complement this landscape with two clearly identified forms of activity.

Also in the wider surroundings is the La Gravera Observatory in Puntales, a wooded area enclosed by the Marismas del Odiel within the Cañada del Corcho y Rincón public forest. At La Gravera, abandoned extraction areas have been restored as freshwater lagoons; the freshwater wetlands amid the salt marshes support a diverse bird population.

A permit from the offices of the natural area is required to visit the La Gravera Observatory. Alternatively, the visit can be arranged through the visitor centre and the appointed operator. The observatory is modelled on traditional huts that once served as homes for many families whose work depended on the resources of the marsh.

The Valle Romero recreational area is also located in the wider surroundings of El Rincón, within the Cañada del Corcho y Rincón public forest. Laguna de El Portil provides shelter and food for numerous birds during their migrations. The Cañada del Corcho y Rincón public forest belongs to the Ayuntamiento de Gibraleón in Huelva.

The beaches Playa del Portil and Playa El Portil are in the immediate vicinity of El Rincón. The beaches Playa San Miguel and Playa de la Bota are also located in the surrounding area.

History

The historic settlement of Rincón de San Antón was finally depopulated shortly after San Miguel had been depopulated. In 1534, El Rincón already had 23 resident inhabitants, while a small community of residents still existed in Rincón de San Antón in 1636.

Culture

The Faro El Rompido Museum is located in the vicinity of El Rincón. Also in the vicinity are the historic site of Real de la Almadraba de Nueva Umbría, the Taller de Bordados en Oro Daniel Prieto Museum and the Casa Hermandad De La Bella Museum.

In the wider surroundings of El Rincón, possible routes for public use, active tourism or ecotourism have been designated in the Puntales area of the Cañada del Corcho y Rincón public forest. A running route from El Rincón to Punta Umbría runs over asphalt, through rural terrain, along a Via Verde, and over sand and seawater.
