Between Zagrilla Baja and Zagrilla Alta, the Jardín Micológico La Trufa is located in the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park. The Cueva-Sima de Cholones was used as a burial cave between the 5th and 4th millennia and features rock art attributed to the Palaeolithic, the later prehistoric period and the Late Middle Ages.

History and Local Life

Zagrilla Alta originated in the Middle Ages, in the 10th century, around a spring as an Islamic hamlet. The washhouse of Zagrilla Alta was funded by Niceto Alcalá-Zamora in 1935 and remains a meeting place for local residents. The July date of the patron saint's festival provides a distinct seasonal reference point: the patron saint's festival of the Virgen del Carmen in Zagrilla Alta is celebrated in July.
