Los Pánchez: Threshing Floors, Bread Tradition and Routes

Los Pánchez is located in the Dehesa La Herradora, also known as Herradura. A distinctive feature of the village is its stone threshing floors: they are paved with stones and rubble of different sizes and colors, forming circular and square patterns. The old streets feature simple vernacular architecture with whitewashed walls and flower-adorned façades.

Culture

The Iglesia de Santa Cruz is a small rectangular church building whose interior is dominated by a crucified Christ. Life in Los Pánchez has always been connected with bread, grain and traditional crafts. Communal ovens, used during the Fiesta del Pan, are also part of the local character.

Fiesta and Crafts

The Fiesta del Pan y Muestra de Artesanía in Los Pánchez takes place every year in October, normally on the third weekend. It includes pottery workshops aimed primarily at younger participants. During the fiesta, children taking part in the event can make bread themselves in private ovens that have been opened for the occasion and then take the baked bread home.

Landscape

Above Los Pánchez, next to an old threshing floor, an altar and a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, there is a natural viewpoint. At the entrance to Los Pánchez are two fountains. One of them is called El Pozo and has an old stone parapet as well as a watering trough for livestock.

Routes

The Sierra de Ojuelos Altos route is 100 % accessible on foot, 90 % by bicycle and 100 % on horseback. The Los Panchez–El Arcornocal section of the Ruta de la Encomienda is 1.13 kilometers long, follows a linear course, is considered easy and can be traveled by bicycle. The fourth section of Route 3 of the Ruta de la Encomienda begins in Los Pánchez and ends in Fuente Obejuna. Different details about the type of route, length and course can be considered side by side for your planning. The Sierra de Ojuelos Altos route can be classified using its three percentages, while the section to El Arcornocal additionally specifies its length, linear course and difficulty level. For the fourth section, by contrast, the starting point and destination are the main focus.
