Benamahoma combines impressive waterways with places where the history of the village can be experienced firsthand. The Sendero del río Majaceite connects El Bosque and Benamahoma; its first section follows the Majaceite River through a riverside forest.

Waterways and Hiking Routes

The Río Majaceite Trail is designed as a 10,359-metre circular route and takes around three and a half hours. Its difficulty level is classified as moderate. Swimming is not permitted in the Río Majaceite, as the river is not designated as bathing water.

A much shorter connection is provided by the Sendero del Arroyo del Descansadero, which connects Benamahoma with the Los Llanos del Campo recreation area. The linear trail is 1.2 kilometres long, takes around 30 minutes and has a low difficulty level. The trail leads to the watercourse and the Fuente del Descansadero spring; the ruins of the Molino del Susto lie hidden in dense vegetation. This places a longer circular route of moderate difficulty alongside a short linear trail with a low difficulty level as two distinct types of route.

In Benamahoma, the Río Majaceite Trail recommends visiting the Ecomuseo del Agua Molino de Benamahoma, housed in the former Molino de El Nacimiento. The different route lengths, walking times and difficulty levels provide clear points of comparison for planning the day.

Culture and Remembrance

The Ecomuseo del Agua de Benamahoma presents the human use of water from prehistoric times to the present day. It displays reconstructions of traditional buildings as well as equipment from the world of flour and oil mills, fulling mills for wool processing, bakeries and other water-powered trades of the past.

On 30 April 2025, the Parque de la Memoria de Benamahoma was opened as a place of commemoration, reflection and remembrance for people affected by repression. The Iglesia de San Antonio de Padua is the most important religious temple in Benamahoma. It houses a polychrome statue of its patron saint, donated in the 17th century by devotees from Seville.

The Fiestas y Luchas de Moros y Cristianos de Benamahoma are a historical reenactment in which the participants engage in hand-to-hand combat.

Benamahoma offers several ways to spend a day: a longer circular route, a short connection to the spring, the history of water use, places of remembrance, the Pinsapar and regional cuisine provide different focal points. The different route lengths and themes offer clear guidance for personal planning.

Nature and Regional Cuisine

The Pinsapar de Benamahoma in Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park is a fir forest. Its trees survived the retreat of the ice ages.

Sopas cocías is a traditional peasant dish from Benamahoma. Its preparation includes stale bread, onion, garlic, olive oil, water, salt and bay leaf. A popular competition centred around Sopas cocías takes place in Benamahoma in February.
