Discover Terque: Museums, History and Nature
Terque offers several ways to explore culture and history: museums, a Mudéjar church and traces of a former Muslim fortification make the town’s past visible in different forms. Terque lies on the eastern edge of the Parque Natural de Sierra Nevada. Culture and history can be found both in museum collections and in sacred and fortified structures.

Culture
The Museos de Terque offer a two-hour guided route through five facilities: the Museo Etnográfico, the Museo Provincial de la Uva del Barco, La Modernista, the Museo de la Escritura Popular and the Cueva de San José. The Museo Etnográfico is housed in a late-19th-century townhouse belonging to the Ayuntamiento de Terque. Its exhibition rooms provide insights into historical occupations, domestic living spaces, and the religious, social and political life of Terque and its comarca. A free public car park at the entrance to Terque is convenient for visiting the museum; it is approximately 200 metres from the Museo Etnográfico.
The Museo Provincial de la Uva del Barco is dedicated to the province of Almería’s parral cultivation, as well as to the history of growing and marketing table grapes known as Uva del Barco. The parral established there serves as an educational and entertaining visitor area: visitors can take a walk and observe how the parral develops over the course of the year. La Modernista is a century-old textile shop dedicated to the history of clothing and fabrics within the Museos de Terque. The Museo de la Escritura Popular and its archive are located in the Casa de los Yebra and now preserve more than 10,000 letters and documents of this kind. The Cueva de San José, inaugurated in 2011, is a cultural space run by the Ayuntamiento de Terque for exhibitions, concerts and conferences.
History
The Iglesia de Santiago Apóstol was built in the Mudéjar style. Its main chapel is separated from the nave by a transverse arch, while the wooden roof consists of an undecorated lima construction. At the Cerro de Marchena, cisterns and remnants of the former Muslim fortification have been preserved; tombstones with Kufic script are also associated with the Cerro de Marchena. A walking tour through Terque allows visitors to see the town’s historic townhouses. This provides different options for different daily rhythms: a two-hour guided museum route and a walking tour as two differently structured ways of exploring the town.
When choosing a holiday apartment in Terque, travel dates, accommodation type and cancellation conditions can be considered side by side. These three details describe different aspects of the accommodation decision: the time frame, the form of the offer and the conditions under which travel plans can be changed.
