Holiday apartment in Videm: Culture, Wine and the Drava

Videm pri Ptuju is a compact settlement on the southern edge of the Dravsko polje, on both banks of the Dravinja. Here, the Haloze hills come closest to the branches of the Drava River. The present-day name Videm pri Ptuju derives from the parish church of Sv. Vida. Thus, the landscape, the place name and the history of the sacred architecture are closely intertwined at the heart of the settlement.

Culture

The parish church of Sv. Vida was already built in the Romanesque period and was first mentioned in 1320. In its present form, it was completed in 1445. The spiritual surroundings also include the Minorite Monastery of Sv. Vida in Videm pri Ptuju, whose activities include spiritual retreats.

Directly next to the Minorite Monastery of Sv. Vida, Frančiškov Park contains three chapels. The park also has benches for resting and a fire pit. It is used for camping, picnics and recreational activities. The “Frančiškov blagoslov – Hvalnica stvarstva” took place as an open-air mass in Frančiškov Park in Videm pri Ptuju on 13 October 2024 and 12 October 2025.

The local cultural life also includes the Klopotec Dravci-Soviče Cultural and Tourism Association. It makes Presmece in various sizes, which are brought to the parish church of Sv. Vida in Videm for blessing. The association also preserves the distinctive archaic folk singing of the Haloze.

Trails

The Videmska planinska pot is classified as an easy mountain hiking trail and passes through Videm pri Ptuju. Control point KT-2 on this route is located at the Pal “Pri treh lipah” inn in Videm pri Ptuju, house number 48. The logbook with the stamp is kept there.

Another trail also begins in the settlement: the Pot med vinogradi starts in Videm pri Ptuju. Its first control point is located in front of the municipal building. The two routes combine different trail features with specific points in the settlement area, without confusing their respective control points.

Nature and Water

The Dravaspust descent passes through the protected Šturmovci Landscape Park. The complete Dravaspust descent takes 4 to 6 hours. For the Dravaspust, the starting point is in Videm pri Ptuju and the finish is in Zavrč; the Dravinja and Drava rivers make boating possible there.

In the surroundings of Videm pri Ptuju, a 3 km-long nature trail runs through Šturmovci Landscape Park. More than 230 bird species can also be observed in Šturmovci Landscape Park.

Wine and Customs

Guided wine tastings are held at Vidova klet. Vidova klet is located in the centre of Videm pri Ptuju, behind the Church of Sv. Vida. Its rooms contain more than 25 different quality and premium wines from 15 winemakers from the Haloze.

After the grape harvest, the Klopotec Dravci-Soviče Cultural and Tourism Association organises a blessing of the new wine as well as a Martinovanje celebration with a humorous baptism of the new wine. The annual cycle is also reflected in the carnival customs: “Fašenk na Vidmu” is an ethnographic carnival procession through the centre of Videm pri Ptuju. A traditional carnival event also takes place in Videm pri Ptuju.
