Discover Mislinja: Štrekna, Culture and Nature
Cycling
The most varied section of Štrekna is in Mislinja and includes the highest point of the route. The highest railway station in the former Yugoslavia was once located there. Štrekna is a paved cycle path along the abandoned route of a former railway line. The separate cycling track is particularly suitable for children and older people; several rest areas and former railway tunnels are located along the route.
The combination of cycling, architectural heritage and nature highlights different options for planning your time. Those who want to combine several interests can arrange these priorities according to their preferred rhythm: spending time outdoors, visiting historic sites or including an event.
Culture
The Tisnikar House is a 17th-century building that was originally an ironworks. The building houses the Kavka Gallery and an information centre. It also hosts art courses and exhibitions, as well as the international Tisnikarjeva likovna kolonija, Grabn Art and the Mala Tisnikarjeva kolonija.
The Robnikova blacksmith's workshop is fully preserved and contains numerous tools, including a water-powered hammer. The Church of St Ahac was built in the second half of the 15th century, around 1470, and is a well-preserved example of Gothic architecture. Its nave has a wooden ceiling dating from around 1730.
This makes it possible to consider different perspectives when planning cultural activities side by side: a former ironworks with a gallery and exhibitions, preserved craftsmanship, and sacred architecture with later wooden fittings.
Nature
Zois Park is largely preserved. It contains trees around 250 years old, some of which are among the thickest in Slovenia. Huda Luknja was opened to visitors in 1895 and is one of the larger natural attractions in the Koroška–Šalek region.
For planning your day, the park and natural attraction offer a different thematic focus from the cycle route or historic buildings. This means that your choice can be guided by your own interests and the preferred alternation between different activities.
Winter Sports
The Mislinja ski jumping centre has the HS-93M, HS-72M, HS-35M and HS-15M hills, all covered with plastic. The centre also includes a chairlift and lighting.
Culture and Local Events
The charcoal-burning tradition in Mislinja is maintained on the municipality's holiday during the last week of June. At the Pozdrav jeseni event, the largest local products are selected and weighed; bread and other delicacies are also put on display.
When comparing holiday apartments in Mislinja, you can consider travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions together. These three details help make different terms and conditions visible and align your choice with your own travel plans.
