Ravne na Koroškem: Holiday Apartment Between Culture and Nature
Ravne na Koroškem combines a distinctive sculptural tradition with trails, cycling routes and a wide range of sporting opportunities. Ravne Sports Park is located in the city’s natural surroundings and the Meža Valley between Peca and Uršlja gora. This brings together different aspects of the town: cultural history, outdoor activities and regional specialities stand side by side.
Culture
The steel sculptures of Forma viva are one of Ravne na Koroškem’s attractions. They were created at nine international sculptors’ symposia between 1964 and 2014. A total of 36 sculptures were installed in the urban areas of Ravne na Koroškem, Prevalje, Mežica and Črna na Koroškem. During “S punklom po Formi vivi!”, visitors view the Forma viva sculptures scattered throughout the town while enjoying a snack.
Since 30 November 2016, the museum exhibition at Ravne Castle has featured a permanent exhibition about the creation of the Ravne collection of outdoor sculptures. The collection was conceived in 1964 as part of the national cultural event, the International Forma viva Sculptors’ Symposium. Since April 2005, the chapel of Ravne Castle has housed a permanent exhibition of Roman stone monuments from the archaeological site at Zagrad near Prevalje, as well as individual stones from the Municipality of Ravne na Koroškem. The Roman burial ground presented in the lapidarium of Ravne Castle dates from the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD.
In the immediate surroundings are the historic Turške šance fortifications, hidden in a forest above Kotlje. At their centre is a small island overgrown with vegetation.
