Holiday apartment in Boleráz: Churches, Hradisko and Water Reservoir

In Boleráz, the history of today’s parish church of Saint Michael the Archangel begins with a clearly dated start of construction: the foundation stone was laid on 1 May 1786, and the construction work was completed on 15 September 1787. The high altar is dominated by a statue of Saint Michael the Archangel slaying a dragon.

The church thus combines a precisely documented construction period with a striking image inside. In addition to the church building, Hradisko Zámok points to a much older settlement history. Together with the settlement sites associated with the Boleráz Group, the site’s historical reference extends from prehistory to the village church of the late 18th century.

Culture

Another historical site is located at Hradisko Zámok, about 1 km southwest of Boleráz. Around 1500 BC, a fortified settlement with an embankment, palisades and a pointed ditch stood there. Boleráz also contains at least five settlement sites associated with the Boleráz Group.

Boleráz’s regular cultural calendar includes the traditional “Pochovávanie basy” before the beginning of Lent. Celebrations for the feast of Saint Catherine are also held regularly. In Klčovany (Boleráz) stands the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, a Baroque single-nave church with an integrated tower that was restored in 1856.

The cultural information therefore includes both archaeological traces and churches and recurring community celebrations. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Klčovany adds another sacred building to the view of Boleráz, with its own architectural form and restoration history.

Nature

Boleráz lies in the Trnavská pahorkatina, about 14 km northwest of the district capital, Trnava. The Trnávka stream crosses the unforested area of Boleráz in a flat, broad valley. In the northern part of the cadastral territory, the landscape belongs to the Podmalokarpatská pahorkatina and displays the characteristics of a lowland hilly landscape.

The southern part of Boleráz’s cadastral territory lies in the Trnavská tabuľa and features a gently undulating plain landscape. The Boleráz water reservoir was built in the 1960s. In addition to its recreational function, it is also important for flood protection.

Several landscape forms therefore occur alongside one another within the cadastral territory: the flat, broad valley of the Trnávka, the lowland hilly landscape in the north and the gently undulating plain landscape in the south. The water reservoir forms a human-made landscape element whose function extends beyond recreation to include flood protection.

Sport

The sports complex of TJ Slavoj Boleráz includes a football pitch and additional sports areas. Conditions for water sports on the body of water in Boleráz are considered very good.

The football pitch, additional sports areas and the body of water thus represent different sports areas in Boleráz. The information distinguishes the sports complex on land from the conditions for water sports, which are considered very good.
