Štefanov: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Štefanov lies at the transition between the Chvojnická pahorkatina uplands and the Borská nížina lowlands. When staying in Štefanov, the desire to rent a holiday apartment may be part of personal travel planning.
Landscape
The southern part of Štefanov lies in the flat floodplain of the Myjava River. The Štefanovský potok stream flows through the village. The cadastral area is used predominantly for agriculture and is partly covered by acacia woodland.
Culture and history
The Neo-Gothic Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria in Štefanov was built in 1937 on the site of an older church dating from 1561. It has a three-nave interior, a polygonal presbytery ending and an attached tower. The main altar bears a painting of Saint Catherine by E. Massányi.
Several small religious monuments form part of the historic village landscape. The wayside statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is a folk stone carving from the late 19th century and stands by the village stream in the centre of the village. The statue of the Seven Sorrows, also known as Božie muky, is located on a hill opposite house no. 90. The centre of the village is also home to the Chapel of Saint Florian, in front of the old fire station. A Calvary group dating from 1921 is located in the cemetery.
Historical points of interest can also be found outside the village centre: The chapel at Stárniská stands on the road between Dojč and Štefanov, near the grounds of an agricultural cooperative. Tomšov mlyn is one of Štefanov’s historic settlements with original buildings; some of these original buildings have architectural and historical value.
The Štefanov carnival tradition known as “Turci” is still maintained in its original form.
Sports and community life
In 2017, a football pitch was built next to the primary school grounds and is used for football matches by Športový futbalový klub Štefanov. The pitch has a covered spectator stand. The sports complex includes a football pitch, changing-room and grandstand buildings, a multifunctional sports field and a children’s playground.
The Štefanov Municipal Library is open on Wednesdays from 14:00 to 16:00 during the school year.
Transport links
Road II/500 connects Štefanov with Senica, as well as with Šaštín-Stráže and Dojč, and continues via Kúty and Sobotište to the border with the Czech Republic. Road III/1136 connects Štefanov with Unín and Radimov and runs for 2 km through the entire built-up area of the village. Road III/1033 connects Štefanov with Letničie and also joins road II/500 Kúty–Senica.
Záhorie Wine Route
Štefanov is one of the municipalities along the Záhorie Wine Route. In the wider regional area of the Záhorie Wine Route, Open Wine Cellar and Wine Shed Day has been held annually since 2010.
