Holiday apartment in Zamarovce – Manor Houses, Chapels and Nature

In Zamarovce, Neoclassical architecture, older ruins, chapels from different periods, and quiet memorial sites come together. The Neoclassical manor house of the Zamarovský family dates from the first half of the 19th century. In the Brehy area lie the ruins of the older manor house at the upper end of Zamarovce. This means that different traces of local history stand side by side in one place: a manor house, the remains of the older building, and several religious and commemorative sites.

Culture

At the lower end of Zamarovce, on Zamarovská Street, there is a chapel with a distinctive construction history. It was rebuilt in 1956, approximately 20 metres from its former location. Its appearance features a pseudo-Gothic style. In the courtyard of today's kindergarten, there is also a monument to the sixteen local men who fell in the First World War. This monument was unveiled in 1921.

There is also a chapel at the upper end of Zamarovce. The new building was erected in 1971 with a bell tower and is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The former chapel at the upper end has a bell dating from around 1500, which is still in use. Thus, the two chapels bring together new and older structural elements, different styles, and religious traditions, without their respective histories merging.

On the Feast of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows, worshippers meet in the afternoon at the chapel at the lower end of Zamarovce for a joint devotional service. The local traditions also include “Stavanie mája”, a traditional cultural and social event in Zamarovce. It took place, or was intended to take place, on 30 April 2026 from 18:00 to 21:00 at the Kačabar sports complex.

The border cross between Zamarovce and Skalka nad Váhom is regarded as a place for walks and quiet reflection. The religious buildings, the monument, the family crypt, and the border cross thus stand side by side as different local memorial sites.

History

The history of the Zamarovský family also includes the family crypt in Zamarovce. It was built in the form of a chapel at the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century. The crypt is in good condition and continues to serve its original purpose. Its form as a chapel-like sacred building adds another historic site to the two chapels and the older traces of the estate.

Nature

Alongside the historical and religious sites, the Zamarovské jamy are among the defining natural features of Zamarovce. Numerous marsh and water birds live in this area. This natural environment therefore has its own connection to the town's architectural and memorial sites: the focus here is not on architecture or tradition, but on the bird species found there.
