Holiday apartment in Nalepkovo – cycling route and churches

Nálepkovo combines a 69.3-kilometre cycling route with a narrowly enclosed valley landscape and 18th-century church buildings. Along its route between Dedinky and Margecany, the Hnilecká cycling route passes through Nálepkovo. It follows class II and III roads, local roads and, briefly, a forest road.

Landscape

The Hnilec Valley near Nálepkovo is comparatively narrow. The mountain slopes often reach right down to the banks of the river there. The valley location therefore forms a clearly defined landscape area, while the cycling route incorporates several types of roads along its course.

In the vicinity of Nálepkovo are Žaloba and Sosninka, each a mountain. Holý Vrch and Hlinisko are also located in the surrounding area and are likewise mountains. The four elevations mentioned are thus situated in two different areas around Nálepkovo.

Culture and history

The Roman Catholic Church of “St. Stephen” in Nálepkovo is a single-nave Classicist building. Its presbytery has a segmental termination, with a projecting tower structure dating from 1770 to 1781 in front of it. The church has a late Baroque high altar dating from the period when the church was built. It also has a pulpit and an organ from the late 18th century.

The Protestant church in Nálepkovo is also single-nave, but belongs to the late Baroque period and has no tower building. Its presbytery has a segmental termination; the building dates from 1785. Its furnishings include a brick-built Classicist altar from the early 19th century and Empire-style pews from the same period as the altar, also from the early 19th century.

Another visible landmark in the village is the monument on Nálepkovo’s central square. It has stood there since 1929. Together with the two churches, this provides several clearly dated points of reference: the Catholic church, built between 1770 and 1781; the Protestant church, dating from 1785; furnishings from the late 18th century; and elements from the early 19th century.

Geographical setting

The wider regional surroundings of Nálepkovo also contain several independent destinations with different forms of construction and preservation. These include Spiš Castle, a castle; the ruins of Kláštorisko; Spišská Kapitula, a monastery; and Sans-souci, a church. The sites therefore range from a castle and monastic ruins to a monastery and a church.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Nálepkovo, the length of stay, room layout and a small selection of personally important amenities may influence the decision. A different layout may be suitable for a short stay than for several days; likewise, the desired room arrangement may affect personal planning. What matters is which features travellers themselves need and how much space they want to allow for in their everyday travel routine. The question of whether shared living space or separate areas for privacy are preferred is also part of the personal decision-making process. This creates an individual standard for the accommodation, based on the travellers’ habits and the timeframe of the trip.
