Holiday apartment in Oravice: hiking trails, thermal park and winter sports
Oravice can be explored through its trails, landscapes and attractions.
Nature
South of the Oravice settlement lies the protected Juráňová dolina area within Tatranský národný park. The gorge of the Juráňová Valley features steep rock walls, potholes, waterfalls and cascades. An elevated wooden footbridge leads through this natural area, crossing the Peciská peat bog and biotopes of a fen and wet meadows. Sediment deposition began in this area of Oravice around 6,000 years ago.
Hiking
The Juráňová dolina educational trail begins at a junction in Oravice, leads through the Ticha Valley and returns to Oravice through the Bobrovecká Valley. Its circular route is approximately 8 kilometres long and takes about three hours on foot. The route through the Juráňová Valley has an elevation gain of 230 metres. Another hiking route through the Juráňová Valley begins and ends in Oravice and leads through the Bobrovecká Valley. This route is also suitable for families with children.
The Antona Kocyana educational trail adds two routes of different lengths to the network: Route A is 14.6 kilometres long, while Route B is 3.2 kilometres long. Route A begins in Oravice and follows a paved forest road to the Ticha Valley. Route A has 22 stations, while Route B has nine. Route B leads across the Peciská peat bog, where an observation tower stands.
The trails do not all follow the same type of terrain: valley sections, peatland areas, a paved forest road and the relaxation trail represent different trail types. The length, duration and elevation gain also vary between the routes described. The trail network therefore connects routes with different profiles.
The relaxation trail is suitable for visitors with limited mobility and is connected to parking areas at both ends.
Active pursuits
The Oravice Bike Park has four routes with a combined length of more than 10 kilometres. The Meander Thermal & Ski Resort in Oravice also includes a bike park. In summer, the Skipark Meander Oravice operates a cable car for pedestrians and cyclists.
In Oravice, the cycle route is planned to connect to the relaxation trail and run along the Oravica to the mouth of the Ticha Valley.
Relaxation and winter
The Meanderpark Oravice includes a thermal aquapark that is open all year round. All of the aquapark’s pools use 100 per cent geothermal water. The thermal pools in Oravice use thermal water with a high iron content.
The Skipark Meander Oravice offers more than 12 kilometres of ski slopes. It also has a separate children’s ski area with a SunKID conveyor-belt lift.
History and culture
A memorial plaque to Anton Kocyan is located on the building of the former forestry administration in Oravice. A forester’s lodge originally stood at this site, where Anton Kocyan worked.
Another historical monument is the chapel in Oravice. It was built between 1817 and 1820 and restored in 1864.
