History

When the Orava Reservoir was completed in 1953, five villages, including Ústie, were relocated and flooded. Nové Ústie was built on the shore of the Orava Reservoir.

The documented local history therefore includes both the former Ústie as one of the flooded villages and the construction of Nové Ústie on the shore of the reservoir. Both details are directly part of the history of the village and remain linked to the completion of the reservoir in 1953.

Culture

The original church in Ústie was also dedicated to Saint Elizabeth and was demolished. The Chapel of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary was consecrated on 26 November 1993. Also in 1993, the conversion of the former school, built in 1954, into spaces for worship began.

At the cemetery of Ústie nad Priehradou, the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua was built by the Kohútovci family between 1898 and 1904. The cemetery chapel served as a place of worship. After the Orava Reservoir was put into operation in 1953, the chapel was used until 1995 for worship services and liturgies for the inhabitants of Ústie. The Column of Saint John of Nepomuk, which is an art-historical monument, also stands on the road to the cemetery of Ústie nad Priehradou.

The sacred history therefore includes a demolished original church, the Chapel of Saint Elizabeth, the former school and the cemetery chapel. In the case of the school, its historical status as a former school is retained: conversion into spaces for worship began in 1993, after the building had been constructed in 1954. The use of the Chapel of Saint Anthony is also documented as limited in time and refers to worship services and liturgies for the inhabitants of Ústie until 1995.
