Holiday apartment in Velke Rovne – wire craft and hiking trails

Veľké Rovné is regarded as the unofficial birthplace of wire craft. In the centre of the village, the Múzeum Drotárie is housed in the reconstructed oldest building in Veľké Rovné. The museum also preserves the largest Slovak nativity scene, made by L. Mikulík, a native of Veľké Rovné. On weekdays, the Múzeum Drotárie is open by appointment. In this way, the history of wire craft is brought together at this location with a unique exhibit and a specific building in the village centre.

Culture

One of the village’s prominent buildings is the Church of Saint Michael. It was built in 1753–1755 on older foundations and has a bell made in 1763 by the bell founder J. Steistock. Its bas-reliefs depict Saint Anne and the holy archangel Michael. The sacred history continues in the Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of Mary: the Neoclassical chapel was built in 1831 and stands opposite the Church of the Holy Archangel Michael. Thus, the church and chapel face each other directly in the village landscape, while their construction dates point to different historical periods. The Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of Mary is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose.

Trails and winter

The Veľké Rovné educational trail runs through the village centre and Rimanovice to the Osičie saddle. It is 4.1 km long and has an elevation gain of 320 m. The information boards along the Veľké Rovné educational trail are in good condition. The route therefore identifies both the starting area in the village and Rimanovice and the Osičie saddle as successive points along the trail. Another route through the village is Route 1 of the Kysucká cyklomagistrála; it runs through Veľké Rovné towards Semeteš, Turzovka and Staškov.

For the cold season, Veľké Rovné has a 300 m-long ski lift that can be used in winter. Thus, in addition to the educational trail and cycling route, the range of routes described also includes an explicitly winter-oriented option.

Landscape

In the cadastral area of Veľké Rovné, the Zarúbaná Kýčera lookout tower is a three-storey wooden structure on the 884 m-high mountain of Zarúbaná Kýčera. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads to it from Ivor via Dolinky. Currently, the Zarúbaná Kýčera lookout tower is inaccessible because of its dangerous condition. Parking spaces for access to the lookout tower are located in Veľké Rovné–Ivor or in the Dolinky settlement; the nearest bus stop is Veľké Rovné–Ivor.

Religious sites

A Way of the Cross leads from the Ninise settlement to the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Hájku. Thus, in addition to the buildings in the village centre, a religious route from Ninise is also among the sites described in the wider municipal area.
