Kotešová combines historic buildings, local events and paths along the water with a distinctive regional tradition. The municipality is one of the places on the right bank of the Váh in the Bytča area associated with the wireworking tradition of Drotárstvo. At the same time, the visible traces of the area's history range from Late Gothic architecture to contemporary cultural events.
Cycling
The Váh Cycling Route follows a local road along the canal to Kotešová. In Kotešová, it also leads onto a newly built cycle path towards Svederník. This identifies two different sections within the municipality: the route along the canal and the newly built cycle path continuing from Kotešová towards Svederník. Both routes are part of the Váh Cycling Route and make the village a notable point along this described cycling route.
Culture and Local History
The historic buildings include Kúria Kotešová, which was built at the end of the 15th century and remodelled at the end of the 16th century. It is considered a uniquely preserved Late Gothic building and is associated with heritage conservation reconstruction as well as various cultural events. Kotešová is also home to the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. It was built at the end of the 16th century on older foundations. The church tower was added in 1641 by J. Nicolini, the master builder of the Hrabovský family.
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, situated on a hill, offers views across the Váh Valley towards the table mountain with Hričov Castle and the rocks of Súľov. Thus, this building brings together the historic structure, the later addition of the church tower and the view across the valley in a shared local landscape, without the individual elements losing their own history.
Events and Local Traditions
The events also have different focuses. The Heligonka Players' Meeting in Kotešová took place on 8 June 2025 as its twelfth edition. 112 heligonka players performed at this meeting. The Kotešovský plenér took place on 22 August 2026 as its eighth edition at the manor house in Kotešová. Both dates identify Kotešová as the venue and demonstrate the range between a musical gathering and an event held at the manor house.
On 20 May 2023, a traditional children's fishing competition took place at Lake Kadurka in the lower part of Kotešová. Lake Kadurka and the explicitly named lower part of Kotešová are therefore among the locations mentioned in connection with this competition.
