Dobroč combines the history of a former logging settlement with notable cultural monuments and a clearly described route of the Čiernohronská železnica. Today, the locality is part of the municipality of Čierny Balog and is also its largest settlement. As early as around 1700, Dobroč had a good range of basic facilities. History

Dobroč is particularly associated with the name Jozef Dekret Matejovie. He was born on 12 July 1774 in the former logging settlement as the son of the lumberjack Ján Dekret and later became an important pioneer of modern forestry. A commemorative plaque in Dobroč marks the site of his former birthplace. In this way, personal memory, working history and the development of forestry come together in the settlement, without requiring a lengthy journey from place to place.

Culture

The Roman Catholic Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, “Kostol Premenenia Pána”, stands in the locality of Dobroč and is an immovable cultural monument. Local believers built it themselves between 1934 and 1936. On 16 October 1936, the church was consecrated by Monsignor Andrej Hlinka. Its interior houses first-class relics of Saint Sister Faustina Kowalska, including part of a finger bone of the saint.

The memorial sites commemorating the history of the 20th century are also precisely located. The “Pomník - zavraždení partizáni” monument in the locality of Dobroč is registered as a national cultural monument under ÚZPF number 124 and dates from 1959. The partisan bunker from the period of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) in the locality of Dobroč is likewise registered as a national cultural monument; its ÚZPF number is 127. Another monument bears the name “Pomník obetiam fašizmu – zavraždení partizáni” and is located outside the locality of Dobroč in the Brôtovo area.

Routes

The Čiernohronská železnica connects Čierny Balog and Dobroč via a blue circular route. It passes by the football stadium and is 4 km long. This circular route is suitable for prams, bicycles and dogs. Its course is therefore clearly described not only geographically but also in terms of the explicitly stated forms of use.

Nature

The Dobročský prales National Nature Reserve lies in the Brôtovo valley basin, approximately 6 km beyond the locality of Dobroč. Free public access to the reserve is prohibited. However, professionally guided excursions for forestry or other environmental specialist groups are permitted. The reserve is therefore one of the protected natural areas in the surroundings, access to which is subject to special rules.
